T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Discussion: 2012-2013

It's that time of the year again when I have the pleasure of creating this thread for the 2012 TRAFFIC Auction. :D

Here are some of the domains to be auctioned off:

http://www.targetedtraffic.com/program/2012/domain-auction.php

Some of the names that have been accepted thus far are:

Lot #101 Tumors.com (No Reserve)
Lot #102 Fibre.com ($1 Reserve)
Lot #103 3dMovie.com (Aggressively Priced)
Lot #104 DesPlaines.com ($1000 Reserve)
Lot #105 (Awaiting Signed Contract)
Lot#106 gtldforum.com (No Reserve)
Lot#107 gTLD.org ($1000 Reserve)

These are the runner-ups.

SolarBusiness.com
VirginiaMortgages.com
BrownNose.com
BulletproofVest.com
gtldAttorney.com (No Reserve)
VisitBogota.co (No Reserve) (a .co?? :cy:)
Tumors.net (No Reserve)

Note:

Once we have 100 slots reserved for the Live Auction, and great domains are still coming in, we will select the ones with the very best chance to sell. We plan to sell as close to 100% of the inventory selected for the Live Auction as possible.

Are you submitting any names?

Let's hear about it!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
that for me - since i didn't went - doesn't count, the only factor that matters was the auction.

Lol, you can't have it both ways.

On one hand you'd be pissed if you paid the attendance fee and the auction was weak. On the other, you don't care about the fee and for whatever reason, dislike the auction. I'm :-/

(1000th post :D hell ya! )

well actually i can, i wouldn't be suprised to see many of those domains in the NamePros live auction - i do remember NP live auctions to had way better domains than those - but on a 2k usd event ? i would expect better domains and higher prices.

Congrats on 1,000 posts!

I'm not sure why you keep comparing the attendance cost to the auction? One has nothing to do with the other.

of course it has... why the other way all wanted his domains there ? simple...the smell of money.

The auction is to get people interested in T.R.A.F.F.I.C., not the reverse.

Live auctions have many problems - the biggest of which is that there is little end user involvement (particularly if the names are announced very late in the process). Early name announcement has issues though (a) Managing commission if announced and sold (b) Front running.

The business is not ethical or transparent enough to support proper auctions imho.

I don't there was anything going on weird with Rick & the auction though. I think he picked the lots he thought made sense - not seeing the submissions it's hard to say. Some may have been for humor reasons (vaginas.co was on the list?). He's very successful at what he does / has done. Doesn't mean he's infallible or have bad days/opinions. I think we can all identify with that.

I think he's more wrong than right but I'm sure anyone could say the same of me.

Well if you dont have enough good domains then dont run the auction , simply open the window for submissions earlier than that , i am sure he will get better domains ....

Maybe it's just that they have a 1 day event that they want to drag out?

Looking at the site?

Friday -
Schmoozing

Saturday -
Mingling on a boat or in towels, schmoozing

Sunday -
Registering, mingling, partying

Monday -
A panel discussion.
RightOfTheDot discussing their business
Keynote speech.
AUCTION to fill out the afternoon
End with more schmoozing.

Tuesday -
Ron Jackson talks about sales
Quick Pitch (This MIGHT actually be good - though I may go to specific entrepreneur events instead of this)
Frank Schilling talks about his business

Awards to Fill out the Day?
Woopie.. some self congratulation is fun.
Two Seminars or so.

Then More Schmoozing!!!

Wednesday -
Breakfast Schmoozing!

Bottom line... it's a ONE DAY conference (if that) stretched out for schmoozing purposes. Some of the significant what you paid for? People discussing their new business ventures.. whoop de fucking doo.

If you paid and went and DIDN'T get a phone number, contact, huge deal or similar you should evaluate why Fort Lauderdale was graced with your presence, imho.

(obviously I don't have many friends in the domaining world - I asked Aggro, she refused)

Second Chance to Bid. 13K for 3dmovie.com sounds like a deal to me!

Dont see much reseller value in that - especially singular.

Wouldn't be a solution to accept the domain (kids.tv) and once the auction is over, seller decides to accept or not the final price? Or suggest the seller to reduce the reserve price?

We don't give up easy at TRAFFIC. A number of sellers have lowered their reserves or will entertain lower offers.

Now it is too late. By this, they just accepted the fact, the auction failed.

why is eatme.com more valuable?

Plugin.com owner made the mistake of setting up an adult site on the domain.

I heard 13K too on the live feed! 100%! But it didn't apparently so anyone can step up and buy it now at reserve.

I thought 3DMovie.com had sold?

Infact, thats what I thought, it was 13k, but name did not sell.

So 3DMovie.com is not for sale anymore. 13k way too low for this name. Even though that was reserve, but I thought it would go way higher than that amount.

That's a fantastic domain with lots of enduser potential. The reserve needs to be low $xx,xxx and it would move IMO.

That's what you get when you allow people to pay a premium to list domains in the auction.

Next time they should list all the submissions and let domainers vote. Domains with most vote should be put in the auction.
