Sushmita Sen wants her domain name

By IndiaFM News Bureau, July 01st 2005 - 1400 hrs IST

Sushmita Sen who was last seen playing a tough lawyer in Main Aisa Hi Hoon will need a legal advisor for herself now. The former Miss Universe is fuming over a Canada-based man who has squatted on the domain name www.sushmitasen.com. Cyber squatting has turned a trend off lately wherein a person registers websites in the names of prominent celebrities and when the star wishes to stake his claim, the squatter parts away with the domain name only when the celebrity agrees to pay him a handsome amount of money.

But Sushmita wont comply to the wishes of this cyber squatter and is all set to take this man from Toronto to court. Lets wait and watch as to what do we get to see on www.sushmitasen.com

I say, we gotta wait and watch to see what happens... :o

But see, she doesn't have any intentions of paying any money for it hence the reason she is going to court.

Why do you think that?

She'll probabily offer him change (in her eyes) and he'll go for that. I doubt she'll want to go through the lengthy process.. she may have just said that to try and "scare" him in a way. :guilty:

Without knowing all the facts, especially the actual interactions (if any) made
among the parties, it's hard to say what the outcome will be, especially when
they're in different parts of the globe.

Sohil said it best from the start.

why are you so sure ?
is a trademark ?
i don't think so ....

and don't forget that .name is more suited for a name ...

let's say that my name is also sushmita sen ...

which one of us will get it ? there is no way that someone could pretend a domain without having it trademarked(the name )

just my opinion ....

In your opinion what is a fair price for both the buyer and the seller in those situations?

Why is it that in UDRP's the .com is "their" domain? Isn't she from India? Wouldn't the .in be more suitable as her domain? I think if I were ever in this situation my response to it would be just that. It's an all or nothing situation. You file on all extensions at once to claim "your" domain's or don't claim at all. Hell you have sush-mitasen.com taken , sushmitasen.net .org .info .biz .in all taken and who knows what else. Does she own any of these? If not the .in was just released not too long ago where was her concern for her name then?

vimkar said it right, She is not the only one by that name....

Also there is not TM, or copyright, or company by that name...Even if she had a company she would have to pay to get the domain.

I think it is just a threat imho

Well, he might have a fair arguement if is name was the same, although I think the odds on that are VERY remote, especially being in Toronto.

Aslo, as it's basically parked, then there is little arguement over it being a working site.

I would say he'll get a couple of nasty letters from lawyers. He'll discard them, then, in about 3-6 mths, he "may" get a court action. If it gets to that stage, he will prob. just relinquish it.

Just my opinion ofc :)
