Hi All,

Me and my friend were looking forward to open a professional Photography site

Needed some suggestions with the domain name...

she wanted the whole domain to be something like

name.photography
name.fotoshoot

etc...

So do the words like foto (not photo), thru (not through) etc... be a good thing to use in a domain??

secondly does the use of a dot between name and other word make sense -- as in is the usage of dot ok??

Please suggest

Thanks
ANuj

If you can use proper names it will be good but it is hard to get such names.
some suggestions are like universalphotopoint or photographyspace etc.

By the . I assume you mean the use of sub-domains. As in:

yourname.yourdomain.com

This is fine, you can make as many sub-domains as you want if you own the domain. The other choice is to use directories, like:

yourdomain.com/yourname

Not subdomains... the main domain itself....

i.e. the main domain in the format of
yourname.yourdomain.com

Or will it be better to
yournameyourdomain.com

(As she wants her Name in the domain

Its not possible to register a domain name with a dot in in the middle (or anywhere except as part of the extension itself). However, as someone has mentioned before... you can use subdomains once you have the main domain.

You can't regiser anuj.photography.com - because the actual domain in this case would be photography.com

If you owned that, then you could add a subdomain via your hosting account.

So to answer your question - yournamedomain.com would be better.

I ran a photography company a few years ago and went through weeks of trying to find a good domains with keywords. There wasn't anything short enough so I ended up using a made-up 5 letter brandable.

Anyway, if she wants her name in the domain - and her name isn't that popular, then perhaps it would be easy to find an available using some variations.

photography

Hello.

AnujPhotography.com is available to register; and possibly your freind's name and photography is available, or even a combination of both your names and photography. AnujPhotos.com and PhotosByAnuj.com are also there to be registered.
Good luck with your search.
I have iPhotoDesk.com at a very reasonable price if you're interested.

Regards

Ralph.

Don go for sland in the domainname and go for a domain name that will be as little misspelled and missunderstood as possible and is as short as possible.

Also its very good if its easy to remember.

Hard to remember are often web 2.0 domain names or unusual names, such as doakiq or something.

If you get the "namefoto.com" you should also get "namephoto.com"
Otherwise someone else might get it.

Oh and dont by .co people will only think you have forgot to write .com and go to the .com instead.

Getting a .co is probably the worst thing you could do.

Well since you are not looking to buy a domain there is no reason for you to post in domains wanted. So I will close this thread for you.
