Subdomains and DNS - updated

Sorry the post was not that clear, so I wil try again.

Basically what I want to know is how I can use different web hosts to host different subdomains.

I guess I need to change the DNS but how?

Question still not clear... :]

Can you give us a real-life example to explain what you are exactly asking?

Suppose I have a domain called domain.com, and I have created some subdomains, but I don't want the subdomains to be hosted on the same server.
i.e. http://subdomainA.domain.com/ is to be hosted on server1, http://subdomainB.domain.com/ is to be hosted on server2 and so on.

how do I achieve this?

Thanks for taking time to answer it.

A subdomain is specificaly created as a sub directory within your main account... I dont know much about DNS but I suppose you could have your subdomain route to another server with a redirect? Im not sure if this is even right.

I've done this before, photomonkey. I used zoneedit (zoneedit.com) to manage DNS, and then pointed each subdomain to the server configured for it. I mostly used plesk cp for this because it's easy to create standalone subdomain accounts. I hope this helps. :)

cheers, it sure helps.

I have a domain anunciosonline.com that translates to online ads/listing. It works in both Portguese/Spanish, and I am thinking about developing them. I though I could create a subdomain for each country in Latin America + Spain + Portugal. I thought that maybe it would be better to have each subdomain hosted in their own server, as I am not sure how things might go if they are all on the same server. I imagine that some of the subdomains might get need too much band width.

I have still not developed it, but will do so soon hopefully. :)

You must have full controls over your domain name including the DNS.
You have the modify the DNS zone for that domain name. The DNS zone contains your domain DNS settings including all the subdomains, MX, etc.
You have to modify the subdomains so that it points to the correct IP address to the server you wish to go to.

I do have full control of the domain. I guess the DNS can be done on www.zoneedit.com as mentioned above.

Thanks everybody this thread has been really helpful. I will do my "home work" later on today.

a simple solution can be hosting both subdomains on oen server, and forward requests for the 2nd to the second server

Yeah, I had thought about that as well. But then I thought that if the forwarding site went down the others would suffer as well. That is why I was wondering about the DNS stuff.
