Hi,

this is a first for me. Parked a dropcatched name four days ago. In Alexa it comes with a sub 100 000 site score. It has done so for the last six months and also comes up so in the score of yesterday. That sounds all good, BUT so far I've got 5 hits. I know Alexa is far from perfect, but there is a huge difference between the let's say 8-10 K visitors per day the ranking suggests and the 5 I've had the last four days.
The DNS are pointing to the right nameservers, belive you me I've checked and checked again.
Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on why this happens? Any ideas I haven't thought of are very welcome!

If this is not the right forum for this post, I'm sorry and so pls advice.

some people route all their names through one choke point and all there names get the very same alexa ranking I saw one guy with over 100 names and all had the same ranking i dont no how its done but i have seen it, some more tech savy people could explain it better but basically the rank is for the total combined traffic of several names

Alexa rankings are sometimes combined with other domains that the domain redirected to, or that are redirected to it. Sounds like that could be the case here.

Check beyond just Alexa. Search for backlinks and mentions in Google. Compete.com also is good to cross reference.

I'd also look it up in archive.org just to see what all its history was.

Thanks for the input, I'll check it out!

Ya. Alexa can be tweaked easily with just a drop of their widget code...

Yes, I've seen this too.
I nearly impulsively purchased a domain with 28K Alexa ranking a while back...
until I noticed that when the domain was typed into the Alexa check ranking, it resolved to adoption dot com.

You'll want to go directly to Alexa and use their search, which should tell you
if it is a stand-alone domain ranking or whether it is piggy-backing off another.

In fact, the best way check a site's true traffic is typo it, and check the typo name

we classify alexa rankings as "direct" or "indirect" in our pending delete domain watcher (pddw.com) to avoid confusion. it is easy to trick alexa and there is more than one way.

It also can be Chinese traffic.
China blocks traffic to Domainsponsor and Sedo, so you may see no visitors.
