Stupid questions

Hey I know this might be a dumb question, but I'd like to ask anyway.

I recently registered a domain name after the city I live in. It's pretty small, so there aren't too many websites that have a lot information, and are updated frequently.

I was wondering if I could in any legal trouble for using my cities name? I won't be putting anything bad on the site, just maybe headlines, gas prices, events, ect.

I just want to make sure I don't get in any legal trouble.

Generally speaking, you should not find yourself in legal trouble for registering the generic one or two word domain name of the name of the exact city in which you live, IMHO. Is this domain name other than purely generic, for instance "CityGuide.com" or "CityOnline.com", etc? :blink:

Developing it with your own unique content that would be considered useful to its visitors would further assist your position, as well ... but be sure that the content is YOURS, that you've also checked the uspto.gov website for a ™ search, and perhaps consulted with an - preferably local - attorney who specializes in ™ law before embarking on an expensive development / advertising / business venture prior to incorporating, etc. :gl: :imho:

Not a silly question, and far better to be safe than sorry (again, dependent on your specific business plans, as well as the exact domain name in question) IMHO.

it could be news events for your city, videos, images taken by you.
on the other hand, why register something small, but that's a good start good luck

you can put anything bad there. The problem people have may be trademark problem, I assume you don't have them for your city.

There was a thread a bit back about the city of paris threatening legal action to take over generic "paris" website names.

I think you are probably safe but you might get better answers if you share the actual domain name.
