Right click on the start button on bottom left, go to properties.

Click "Customize"

On the bottom you will see it

This is for windows XP.

Also, make sure you hit "Apply"

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel,
Add Remove Programs, Set Program
Access and Defaults, Custom, and
go from there. Also go to Internet
Properties, Programs, bottom left
check the box "Internet Explorer
should check ...blabla." Do not
push Reset Web Settings unless
you have real problems, and in that
case, PM me and we'll have a look.

the easiest method - Fire up the browser you don't want to use, it will ask to be the default browser. Click yes! Close it and fire up your new browser - and it will ask you to be the default browser, check it - click yes and voila

That ofcourse only happens if you've got the option "Check for default browser" checked in the browser options!
