I only have gotten about 5 UV from 25+ stumbles ... I must be doing something wrong.

I think it depends on the niche of website too. I have noticed that if you have entertainment related websites, you get more traffic even with fewer stumbles. Anyways, I posted this few months ago, now-a-days the traffic from SU has declined a lot.

SU can get you some traffic, but its not the best way to keep retainable traffic, and the traffic may not be that stable. (oops, just read your third post, pretty much said the same thing! :P)

but yeah, it'll definitely depend on niche

I've found that if you do quick stumble exchanges or get a bunch of positive stumbles quickly, then you'll notice a big jump in traffic. I think StumbleUpon views it as a hot page and sends a lot of traffic your way. At least for a while.

I think it depends on who the stumbles are from. I think some stumblers have a lot of fans, while other stumblers have none.

Stumbling can be very effective for getting a lot of semi-targeted traffic over a few hours.

I've seen jumps of 800+ visitors, but then it drops off over the next day or so.

i believe on this so badly that's why i'm a paid (sponsor status) there, got same or more clicks from them for a few, what good about being a sponsor is all your fave links appear on your friend's as well.

It was an entertainment website. I have noticed that entertainment websites get better traffic with SU even with fewer stumbles.

I think there's a few things to do that may help.

Try to have as many mutual friends or fans as you can.

You are limited to 200 friends that you can add to yourself.

Try to get actual reviews, not just stumbles.

Stumbleupon traffic is just good for Adsense-like profit

Huh? From my experience, Visitors from SU do not rarely click your ads (or should I say they rarely look at the content of your site and rush to another site).

It depends on your site and your classified audience

It really depends on who is stumbling your site (how many fans do they have), are they reviewing it, how quickly it's happening.

It is semi-targetted, since people will be targetted based upon the categories they've chosen in the StumbleUpon network. Most stumblers though, don't stick around for long.

Which can probably best be monetized through AdSense. You will have low click-through-rates with SU traffic, but you'll make more money on them with AdSense than you would with other business models, such as recruiting members, selling things, etcetera.

That's just my thoughts, though.

it is quite easy to get traffic from stumble upon, but that traffic does not convert to sales or clicks on ads... so, the traffic from SU is quite useless IMHO. Does anyone have a positive experience with SU traffic?

Two stumbleupon experiences

Hi, just wanted to share my experiences (2 images included):

1. Experience 1 (about 1 year ago): .org site, "animals" category, around a 1000 visitors in a couple of days from SU. Got one contributing member who is still around, and many who still visit. I started this stumble late in the afternoon (US eastern time), so most of the people that came in were from the other side of the globe.

2. Experience 2 (day before yesterday): .com site (shopping category) with zen-cart store that I made for my brother, when the count was around 120 the F$@%* webhost shot it down!!! (lesson: talk to your webhost, and check your site regularly when starting a SU campaign). Didn't turn any sales but I guess I will never know. Timing was the afternoon so most of the traffic came from Western US before my nice webhost shot my site down.

Conclusions from my short experiences:
1. SU gives you a burst of visitors.
2. Talk to your host so that they know traffic is coming (my host sucks, yours may not)
3. Choose the right time to launch your campaign as stublers are directed to your site immediately.
4. Choose the right category when adding your site or page within your site.

Regards,

interestedenough
