Hi Guys.

I am from the Uk and I am selling a Nokia 7650 on Ebay. The auction has three days left and so far has no bids. These phones normally sell for between £50 and £65.
Today I received a message in my Ebay message box. The message read as follows....

HELLO
I am l*** s***** from the US.I want to buy ur item as a gift for my uncle,
working with the us embassy in Nigeria as he is retiring by sept 10th.
so i want the item shipped to him on or before sept 5th. so Let me have
ur info regarding how to make the payment I will be making the payment through western
union auction payment [Bidpay].I will pay for it including shipping
payment.i will offer you 1,200 GBP for it with shipping through DHL courier service
Therefore, if you are interested kindly send the following info so
as for me to make the payment immediately
Name...........
Address........
city...........
zip code,......
phone..........
e-mail address..
regards,
l*** s*****

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is it a scam? Why would anyone want to offer £1200 for an item that is currently on 99pence with no bids?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Chris

ebay

Hi Mellowmasher.

I decided to follow your advice and emailed him back with the following........

Hi Larry.
I will gladly accept your offer of £1200 for my camera phone. I would appreciate payment by Bankers Draft, or I could collect cash from you if you provide me with a pair of first class tickets to the Phillipeans!
Best wishes
Chris

I'll let you know which option he goes for!

Scammer. I always get them messages.

Just string him along and tell him you are pleased to have found a buyer and you are ready to sell. Then tell him to f**k off after wasting a bit more of his time.

Just accept every offer you get but only if they send you a bankers draft first but dont give any of your details to these people

Think of it this way: would a normal person spend K's of GBP for a cell phone, and not have a research done on how much it costs?..

I'd tell that person to bid on eBay if they wish, and that you only ship to the countries you specified in the listing, whether it's an embassy or whatnot. Always make sure you have the money before sending the stuff.

Yes it is a scam. The "money" will arrive but after you send the item you will find out the "money" was no good. They get the item and you got nothing.

Try this: Don't reply.
A lot of the times replying to spam will only get you more spam.
