I sold a laptop on eBay and it was stated very clearly that I only ship to the U.S. The winning bidder sends me a message that he's sending the payment and wants it sent to Nigeria. :yell: How can I get my money back from the fees and relist the item? This is a very big inconvenience as I wanted to get this sold ASAP. :td:

Thanks Matthew! I've already reported him to eBay, I'll try the Second Chance Offer thing first before I attempt to get the fees back.

Yeah it's bullcrap from Ebay...they should refund insertion fees when you get scammed or at least allow you to relist it for free. I really can't stand Ebays monopoly on online auctions.

I might start blocking users with 0 feedback...it sucks for those who aren't scammers and want to start using eBay, but I don't really have any choice. :(

You can also block bidders who have their location set to somewhere you don't ship. I don't know how easy it is for people to fake their location though.

Yeah, he set his profile to the United States but told me to ship to Nigeria...it was "for his son" I told him I would ship to his U.S. address and he could send it to his son himself. ;) Of course, that just wouldn't do!

eBay allows you to get the contact information for anyone who is bidding on or has bid on your auction. I would do that, and see if the number they have listed is legitimate. Call them up and talk to them personally, and tell them you are going to report them to eBay.

:bah: Stupid eBay! Hope I don't recieve anthrax.

Anyway, the phone number doesn't show an address for any of the online phonebooks I've tried. Thanks for the idea, though!

Got my fees back! I opened a dispute that we mutually agreed to not complete the sale. (Becuase if I had said he didn't pay, they would've told me to wait) Once eBay realized he was a scammer, they sent out alerts and agreed to the claim. Now you know what to do if this ever happens to you! ;)

I worry about them sharing your information, too, but I realized that they could have requested it anyway.

I'm glad it worked out in the end. Even though ebay may seem like they are going to do something about this person, I'm sure he can sign up for another account with the same name and they wouldn't do anything. Oh well, at least you got your money back.
