Help me out here. I am domaining for a client. It is a 5-6 statewide retail store in the US. The name of the store is a possessive (a name + s) 7 letter name. Example: Roberts. (roberts is FICTIONAL and demo only)

Should I reg:

roberts.us (is avail for the name)

or... should I make a 2-word domain that is easy to remember and maybe even suggest action like:

BuyRoberts.com
GoRoberts.com
ShopRoberts.com
RobertsShop.com

So Please tell me would go name.us or a word+name.com
If you suggest word+name I would appreciate any good "word" suggestions. As always - Thanks a bunch!

If buying for value or resale, store.us is worth more, generally speaking. But when it comes to consumer recognition and memory, both could work...the trouble is that pesky us extention. So my advice is to buy both domains, and have them both point to a third site for the store, masked, so only the forwarded name would show Then do some marketing and polling in different states, with different domains. After a month or two, compare hits, especially uniques. While this is a very rough experiment, it should tell you which domain people like...or can remember..in a rough way.

I would go with the .us extention.
With the new [your zipcode].us search engine (http://www.namepros.com/dot-us/233520-big-dot-us-news.html) coming out soon, this would be the best choice for your client and then they can list their stores for each of the zipcodes they are located in. Just a thought imho ;)

I think it's easier to remember name.us than word+name.com

buystore.com is way better.
Your site is not for domainers, who hyped up the cctld.
How many people know dotus?
Besides, dotcom is a must for any serious biz.

No question about it, you get both.
Then as Verbster suggests, survey the market in the areas
for non domain industry opinions, as well as the rough hits
plan he outlined.

Good score btw, landing that account. :tu:

Good Luck!

I think it depends on what the other keyword is whether it be buy, or online, or whatever is available. If something like StoreOnline.com is available, I would probably register that and the Store.us domain, and then redirect to only one of the domains. However if the choice is between Store.us and BuyStore.com, I would defintely go with Store.us, and not even worry about the .com.

I'd go with a .com even if it's a little longer....just as long as it makes sense.

Clearly divided field of opinions- but most seem to agree to atleast grab the store.us, roberts.us - Now I just gotta check the availability of some of the best word+name.com versions.

The store is quite well known and in many cities and 5-6 states...- So I am very surprised it is even available as .us The .info is also avail.
