I have read about stolen domains. I just wanted to know what happens if you register accidentally a stolen domain? Can you get it taken from you? Can you get sued? What are the possible repercussions?

All of the above...and then some!

and did you mean buy a stolen domain from someone??
there are lots of threads here at NamePros related to
stolen domains and the repercussions of doing so.
My suggestion would be to read through them carefully,
so you have a better understanding of what happens.

If you didn't intentionally buy it and return it to the rightful owner promptly, most people are going to leave it at that. There are some con artists who pretend they had domains stolen from them so they can attempt to acquire good domains for free. If you have a cooperative registrar, they should be able to assist you in determining whether the claim is legit or not.

Do your homework before you buy! Check out everything you can about the seller. Google him, his address, email address(s), telephone #, etc. Also Google the domain if there is anything reported, it will usually be somewhere on the net.

Check the whois record to see if there have been recent changes, if there has, ask the seller where and when they purchased the domain. Ask them to provide details of the previous owner and check the whois history to see if they match.

If needs be, contact the previous owner to confirm that the domain was sold.

I think it is always good to take some precautions before buying domain from someone.
Once i was about to buy a stolen domain and i came to know that it was stolen as whois record showed man from indonesia and the selling was from other country.

I don't know what may happen after you have a stolen domain with you, i think it totally depends on domain the real owner.
