Yahoo - Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO

CUPERTINO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)— To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

I think he picked a good time to do it. Goodluck to Tim Cook not easy to replace Jobs

Sounds like his health has taken a major turn for the worse. I wish him well.

Replacing a man is no problem. Replacing the God that Applefanatics have made Jobs is far more difficult.

After disappointing Lion reviews - the future tablet competition - it's the best time.

That said, I don't think he's leaving for any reason less than health reasons and that's unfortunate. I hope the time away from the pressure of work is rewarding for him - though, I'm sure he never thought it was work.

Im sure the timing of Steve Jobs resignation was carefully planned by apple.

Think everyone should expect an announcement on the new iphone very soon...

They'll want to reverse the share price loss as soon as possible and the iphone 5 will do that.

So, that is a smart decision. I would not also like to work when there are lots of money and weak health...

I agree. Though a difficult one, it is probably the best decision he could have made at this point. I don't intend for this to read so grim, but it is sad to see him having to step down from what many are speculating is due to his ailing health. I wish him well with his continued health struggles and hope he can overcome. There is little else that should take priority over him focusing on his heath, other than getting afairs in order and spending quality time with friends and loved ones.

All the best Steve. Fight the good fight!

-Regards

This is a big bummer for Apple... Hopefully it's not his health, but I have a feeling it is :(

If anything, Apple will surely be pressured to perform with Jobs gone. I too wish Jobs the best, and at least that'll give him a chance to enjoy life with maybe less stress.

On the side, I've always kept this speech Jobs gave:

Reminds me to re-read it again.

I wonder if the quality of Apple's product that will be release in the future will be affected since he is no longer making the executive decisions?

The quality of Apple is no greater than your average other company, imho. I doubt it will change that much.

Please take note that Steve is still the Chairman of the Board. He might not be in the executive area but still has a great role in the company. Apple just give him much time to rest due to failing health. I wish him luck in his Health!:talk:

Please note that Steve doesn't work in the Quality Assurance division of Foxconn :)

Sorry to bump a thread over a month old, but I was shocked to learn that Apple has confirmed Steve Jobs has passed away. A very sad loss.
