Apple Gift Cards?

Hello,

I'm working on buying a refurbished iPod from Apple.com. Unfortunately, I don't have a credit card to use, so I need an alternative way of paying. I noticed that it's possible to use an Apple Gift Card. After lengthy Google searches, I came to the conclusion that an actual person will have to help me with this one.

Where can I buy an Apple (not iTunes) gift card? Apple has them for sale online, but I'd have to pay for them with a credit card which defeats the purpose. And, there is no Apple retail store anywhere nearby.

I was also considering buying a Visa or American Express gift card sort of thing that works like an actual card (I think the Visa gift card acts as a debit card, and I'm not sure if that will work on Apple.com, I'd hate to lose out on $190 ).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Steve B-)

Ehhh, that's a hard one. I believe your only choice is going to the apple store and getting a gift card there OR even asking if you can buy it there in store. They have a ton of refurbs there for replacements, I'm not sure if for retail.

I'd get the pre-paid CC and order it. Or get a Debit card with a checking account and use that.

Is it possible to use a debit card at the online Apple store? I would be able to do that.

Usually if it has the visa, mastercard logo etc. you can. I'd call or email to be sure.

Great, I read the same thing on the Apple forums. Thanks for the input, Bill, Steve, and Keenen. :)

I will buy two $100 Visa gift cards tomorrow, from the supermarket I work at. Everyone will think I'm crazy. Then, I will have a new iPod. :)

Thanks again,
Steve

Yeah I have a debit card and it works just like a Visa. It is really an amazing thing. The difference is it pulls from my checking account instead of just tabulating a bill. Also, it is nice because it immediately updates my funds online. Hope this helps.

Good luck!

That's really great to hear, thanks. I don't have a debit card right now, so I guess I can just get a Visa Gift Card that works like a Visa Debit Card and use that for my online purchases when they don't like Paypal. Great news for me. :)

Thanks a lot,
Steve

Great news! My gift cards worked fine and my iPod came in the mail very quickly. :) I had about $11 leftover so I bought some speakers from Amazon.com, and a couple episodes of The Office (US) from iTunes (which still haven't been charged to my card...?).

I also bought another $50 gift card which I used to buy a couple of great deals online (a $3.97 polo shirt from OldNavy.com; a great cordless phone/caller ID/answering machine from JR.com for $17.99). :)

Thanks again, everyone!

Nice Steve! Did you think about buying any games off itunes? They are $4.99 each, PacMan looks pretty cool!

:tu:
Great! I didn't know there was PacMan. I haven't checked out the games too much. The default ones on my iPod (Solitare, Parachute, and Music Quiz) are pretty fun. It's definitely something to consider though, thanks for the idea! :)
