Splash Page Legally required for "adult" sites?

What are the requirements for an adult site, if hosted in the US, for a splash page? Is one required? My site (SexRobot.com), is adult, but it is not porn. Please note NSFW. Do I legally need a splash page?

I'm not sure about the legality of it but ALOT of them have showed up in the past year. I own Squirterz.net and the content provider actually provided me with a warning page at one point, suggestion that I implement it immediately. I didn't read WHY, just noted that all their content pages now have them. All of the sudden like.

So I'm guessing there was some kind of law or ordinance passed. Across the boards, they all seemed to start doing this at about the same time.

Besides, is it really a BAD thing? For those that don't want to see the content, it's a way out, for those that do... it's anticipation, kinda like that plain brown packaging you are always reading about. LOL!

Anyway, I say it's a good thing to have and to use regardless of a law.

How would I add a splash page and still keep my home page as the indexed main page? Right now, http://www.sexrobot.com home page has all the keywords, meta, and content etc. If I add a splash page, does that page then need to be the sexrobot.com home page, with a link that points to the main page (like SexRobot.com/home.php)? Or is there some easy way to just make it pop up?

It's a WordPress blog if it makes any difference.

I'm not sure if you would contravene this 'law' by having the warning page as a popup (I think you probably would) but you could use a bit of code on the "index" page whereby it checks if the user has previously accepted the terms and agreed to view the site, and if they have it just loads like normal, otherwise it shows the warning etc, that way people would only have to view the splash page once! Hope that makes sense...

I wouldn't classify sexrobot as an adult site per se, its more softcore or risque if anything. Warning pages normally consist of a front page with a "You are an adult in your community and are at least 18 years old (21 in some communities)" button and an "Exit here" button which takes them to google or somewhere innocuous.

actually splash screen are not really enforced by the laws since most of the web site (XXX) are too many to track. Most big porn company in actual fact does have those splash screen..... (think if only you are a corperation-size porn industry)

other than that, splash screen serve as a buffer page to sieve the underage and the adult , for those who can view and those who can;t.

It also provides the site owner to shift the responsibility of viewing the content on to the visitor. It's a relief of legal liability.

They gave the visitor a chance to NOT view the content instead of bombarding them with it right off the bat.

I think that is the biggest reason for such a thing and from a legal standpoint, I think it makes perfect sense.
