I've had a few speeding tickets... one was for doing 40 in a 35 because we were late coming back from lunch and got pulled over. The other was doing 60 in a 40 because I was coming off a late night/morning of work at like 6am and was about a mile from home and wasn't paying attention to my speed and got pulled over. The worst thing is I was in my dad's car and he had forgotten to put his new registration sticker on the license plate so I got a ticket for that too.

My dad gets about one every year, when we go on vacation. The current one was $200 : (

Plead not guilty and ask for the last radar gun inspection report. Must be within 30 days or ticket is not valid. Atleast, thats what I was told from a cop friend :)

Cheap speeding tickets up there :p

If you go 40km over the speedlimit here I think the fine is around $2000 :o

***Disclaimer***

First off...I do not suggest doing this. I was much younger, stupid and very lucky I did not kill myself in this car.

***

I had a job out of town and I usually drove the company truck to the job sites, but on this day I was not going to need my tools so I took my car. A VERY highly modified Toyota Supra. As soon is I got on to the freeway out of town I put my mind to making record time and set the cruse control at 125 mph. Less than 10 minutes later, I passed under a bridge and looked in into the rear view mirror to see a CHP vehicle setting on the crest of the bridge. He did not seem to even notice me, so I just kept going. After about 15 minutes I came up on traffic, slowed down and joined the crowed. I was almost at the job site and had the record in the bag. Until...the CHP vehicle flew by me and the rest of the cars with his lights and sirens going. Just after passing me he recognized my car, hit the brakes and told me to pull over. He was pi$$ed, but did not want to take me to jail so he gave me a lecture and wrote me up for 85mph (I was told that anything more than that, he's required by law to take you in.)

All my friends told me to go to court and fight it, since the court was out of town they figured he would not show up and the ticket would be dropped. WRONG! He showed and he told the judge the truth about what actually happened.D-: The judge did not even ask for my side. He just lectured the officer for about 5 minutes for not performing his duties and sent him on his way. The judge then directed me to sit in the back row of his court room until he was ready for me. He made me wait through every case he had that session. The people looked at me something like "Dead man walking" while leaving, after they finished their case. Once the entire room was empty except for the Judge, Bailiff, Recorder and me, the judge called me up to the front. I thought I was going to jail or something. He gave me what seemed like a 20 minute lecture on the law, driving, responsibility and more. Then, explains that the law does not allow him to punish me for more than the 85 mph that the officer wrote me up for, but that he was going to require me to go to driving school. The ticket was $205, driving school was $50, DMV fees $30 and my insurance went up nearly $500 a year.

Do not drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

fines? sweet, I'll pay them happily. It's losing your license that really hurts.

a cop knocked out one of my teeth for talking back to him once, the judge counted that as part of my punishment and only banned me for 3 months instead of 6. it was almost worth it. but i drove every day while i was banned anyway :p

seriously i have had plenty in a semi and a car but none in a while
in every instance iv used an actual lawyer
and youl never know it why,
cuz they did theyr job.

trust me
its the way to go. Not cheap but a well placed cal from a lawyer will work great with a da
why does this work because when you find a good firm the da doesnt want that kind of hassle from just a revenue thing like a ticket. its always easier to work something out they understand and just want their rev besides they can waist time on a speeeding ticket or a serious crime most will choose the latter when chatting with a real law firm.
I spent alot of time finding them in differet states and what not so if it worked for me it might work for you.
but if you just need to get it quikly handled take your class and be done with it.

Ironically, a friend of mine got a speeding ticket the day this was posted -- $181 for 80 mph in a 60 mph zone.

This is not legal advice, just information, but do at least call an attorney (If you are in the US) about the ticket before you just pay it out of pocket. Chances are many attorneys will appear for you (You don't even have to show up) for less than the cost of the ticket, and then the real costs (The insurance rate increase, etc.) won't be an issue if the attorney can take care of it (For example, in NC your first one is basically a "freebie" if you just fill out the right paperwork...).

I hear about too many people thinking that the cost of the ticket is the fine; the fine will be a one time hit of $80 - $250 usually (TN and VA aside ;) ), but the increase on your insurance bill (If you have a nice car/more than one car/family) will be many, many times greater.

Thanks for the idea; however, I was certainly in the wrong (17 mph over the limit, going uphill), so I'm just going to pay the fine like a man and take it as a painful learning experience.

Guilty or not (You don't go and argue that you weren't speeding - I'm not advocating dishonesty.), using the statutory option of a no-contest plea and lowering to improper equipment (Or whatever your state does) has nothing to do with taking it "like a man" - I typically don't try to punish myself by giving even more money to the state of Delaware unless I absolutely have to.

Again, just my .02
