I like the odd speculative buy, a few months ago I bought worldcup2026.com as a long term investment and more recently I have bought names for things like joost and the new iphone. All of these domains rely on a successful product launch for them to realise the full potential. Today I upped the ante on speculative buys to the next level by investing in a number of domains related to a new service which has been given a provisional thumbs up, but still has to clear public consultation and has the prospect of a name change. The press release can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/news/press_releases/27_02_2007.html

However if it gets the go ahead and sticks with it's current name it will be huge and will be advertised between practically every programme on the BBC.

I am just interested on other people's views on speculative domains and what other people have invested in.

Assuming you are going to hold worldcup2026.com until 2026, you're looking at regfees of about $130 (assuming $6.95/year). It's a speculative buy that could pay off in the future, but usually I'm reluctant to buy any domain that won't have a market within one or two years.

I read news about a new program that the US was supposed to be passing relating to how foreign people go about obtaining a travel Visa... It's supposed to be an online program, and has been dubbed Visa-Lite. Considering that there are millions of people who come to the US for some reason every year, and its an online program, I figured it couldn't hurt to spend a few bucks to potentially have the best domains possible. So I regged, VisaLite.com and Visa-Lite.com. Though I honestly haven't heard anything about it since, but Bush was supposed to be in support of it. Maybe its on the back burner? Or maybe they wont even call it Visa-Lite, who knows :)

Either way, travel, visa services and green card lottery ads pay big money. I really need to start developing the site now. I'm definitely looking at it as a long-term investment.

If it is aimed at foreigners it is highly unlikely to stick with VisaLite, as far as I know lite is a purely American slang word and I've never seen it other than on the odd American product.

The rest of the English speaking world know how to spell.

The difference is that it's not a product.. The government doesn't NEED foreign people to get visas, foreign people NEED to get visas, so they'll be looking for it no matter what it's called, or they won't be coming to America, at least not legally :)

But like I said, who knows, time will tell. It might never get passed or might be called something else.

Anyone done a quoted Google search? 95,000 results and few are english sites. There appears to be a visa-lite credit card. Might work out.
