Good Morning

Not sure if I'm placing this question in the right category.

In our personal gourmet food site www.thegourmetlife.com we have a forums and we are getting spammed with registrants with various poker related emails. So the usernames are different, emails are all different, urls are different so its almost pointless banning them as they just appear under a different information. They are coming from a blogspot url but each url is a variant of that I've been deleting them one by one which is a drag. I don't think we can see an IP address unless they post in our forums. We get about 3-5 per day.

Any sugguestions? This is just tooo annoying.

Thanks so much

Firstly, its mainly because you use phpbb, its prone to attacks.

All i can advise is more security on the registration form...better emial verification and better image verification.

By better, i mean custom...if only you have the code, the hackers/spammers cant get around it with flaws.

I'd suggest turning on visual confirmation. When people register they're then prompted to copy the text from an image.
If it's bots registering and then spamming, which is likely, that should stop them.

Go to the admin panel and click configuration, look for "Enable Visual Confirmation" and click yes next to it. Submit and that'll give you something like this - screenshot - when registering.

That should solve your problem. :)

This method worked brilliantly. Have had no users register that were not legitimate.

Thanks again

not so, vB, IPB, MyBB, and any other BB out there is prone to attacts like that... take adminfusion.com .. thay use vB.. and still had spam bots sgn up..

best thing you can do is bet an e-mail confirmation, and a visual confirmation.

GL with it
