STORY OF THEGOURMETLIFE
Foodies...thats us!!! My husband applied to be a Guide with About.com for the "gourmet food" category and in doing so he had to compile a hugh amount of information regarding gourmet food/gourmet cooking etc for his application as the Guide, as they wanted to see how much he knew about the category and his writing style. He got down the final two but wasn't chosen. Devistated and sitting with a ton of recipes, reviews, cooking tips, many hours cooking and taking pictures etc etc. What would we do with it all??
Luckily, my husband Chris is an awesome web designer and so thegourmetlife.com was born. All those hours would not go to waste. We continued to add to the site over a few months with topics related to gourmet cooking and food.
He created 4-5 other category templates within the site. Details were important to him as in the little plates he created to note the alphabet for the glossary. Too cute!!! Food Glossary
Things to note:
*The content is 99% unique
*Permission was obtained for the handful of recipes we obtained from other sources and a link was placed on that particular recipe to the source.
*There is a forum but it is not active currently
*Little traffic but I think with a knowledgeable SEO guy, it could be huge
*We did put time into using appropriate Headers, Titles, word density etc of the recipes as we went
*We usually just make enough to pay for our hosting as it was never about the money
*Feedback has always been only positive about the look and feel of the site
It is an interesting, informative and fun site that although we didn't have the time or energy to move any further with it, would love to see someone else move it up in the google ranks.
Sorry to ramble, too much to say
If I've missed anything, just ask.
Thanks
Cathy (& Chris)
