Got a spam email from an .edu site, I thought only Educational institutions are allowed to have .edu? So they are spamming now? Can anyone tell me what is happening?

It's from "BRITISH GAMING COMMISSION" <[email protected]> with a reply-to [email protected] saying ive won a free lottery & stuff.

Headers are probably forged. Especially if the reply-to is different.

Their server could be compromised.

Most likely.

Students have been known to use their school accounts for all kinds of uses, some of them for shady purposes.

Schools frown on this, so if the emails get truly bothersome, report it to the school's IT.

If it's a one-time deal, I'd just ignore it or warn the student that he could lose his school account if he spams with it.
