Spaceship.com recently launched a new Marketplace section, and as NamePros has given me the go-head, I think the company deserves its own thread for NP domain marketplace users to converse in.

https://www.spaceship.com/sellerhub/

Personally speaking, I will be setting up a new Spaceship.com account this weekend and going to work investigating its various features, options and policies.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

In my opinion, they should have charged the 10% fee to the seller instead.

I am not entirely sure what the intention was behind this decision, though it is possible they hoped to increase revenue of the seller by charging the buyer. However, I believe this could ultimately be a deal breaker for the sellers.

I suppose it won't affect my STR at Spaceship in a negative way since it's been 0.

Are buyers getting charged the commission now? Or are both parties being charged 5% for a new total of 10%

I noticed this earlier today. BAD

What is the random extra fee being added to this purchase?

Failing conversion optimisation 101.

That's the new "update".

Additional 5% commission payable by the Buyer.

It’s not mentioned anywhere on that screen, or the one before it, or the namecheap screen before that.

Could be anything as far as the buyer is concerned and I guarantee it’s hurting conversions.

I’d prefer 10% commission on seller rather than 5% commission on the buyer

Did one of GD's employees move to Spaceship during the Winter Transfer Window?

Strange, because I don't see any reports on Transfermarkt.

I hope it's just a loan deal without an option to buy .

I agree - they should at least offer the option to the seller (choose who pays, and a toggle to decide).

By doing it this way buyers are hit with a surprise and it could lower STR
Further, it removes charm pricing (we set at $2999, $4999, etc) and this makes the pricing higher which could lower STR

@enetwork can you add this?

Has to be. It's the same with any site - as soon as I start to have doubts and double-check for hidden charges

then I look elsewhere.

Especially as I don't think that Spaceship is a household name yet.

Massive red flag when these things start to happen and not get communicated. I was a fan previously.

Most buyers will either not notice it or will forget it during negotiations.

@enetwork, hi Richard. I think most sellers already understood that sooner or later Spaceship would have to increase the comission. That's normal. I'm already grateful for the 5% in addition to the cool landers and Namecheap reg path.

Maybe it's not quite right for me to speak on behalf of everyone, but it would have been better if you had simply increased our comission to 10%.

And 5% is an outlier.

EDIT: I deleted the X tweet as some of the info was for "landers" and self serve "checkout links" rather than marketplaces. So as not to co-mingle the two - I felt it best to delete (thanks to @fka1080405 for pointing this out)

The numbers are wrong. Off the top of my head, Sedo and Atom do not charge any commission to buyers. Some providers might have credit card payment fees (which those numbers sound like) but that's a separate fee and avoidable by choosing a different payment method.

Spaceship is, as far as I know, the only mainstream platform charging buyer commission.
