I just purchased SonyStock.com and SonyOverStock.com. Estibot appraised sonystock.com at $5,300. Yikes, I can only hope.

Now, I don't plan on trying to sell these domains to Sony at inflated prices, because that would be cybersquating. I do however think these would be good domains for Licensed Sony retailers or affiliate sites.

I also have Capitalcash.org and MarketMoney.org, but if I can only get 1 appraisal on here I'd like it to be for sonystock.com.

Thanks.

SonyOverStock going for the TM double

I find it hard to believe that no one can use any domain name that contains any TM in some form, that's like saying that Sony has claimed exclusive rights to any domain, existing or not, containing the word "sony".

And what about this kind of stuff I see on ebay: Imagebin - A place to slap up your images.

So many good names to register out there why do you choose to waste your time, go google "sony wipo"

This domain is a liability against a lawsuit

This domain has $0 value, and YES, sony has the right to dispute any domain that uses SONY in the name that is in the same line of business as them.

If you have any doubts just give their legal dept. a call.

OK. But what about the people that are paying high 5 digits for domain names with TMs in them? Do they not know about the legal issues? I'm lost as to what's going on there. At first I wasn't gonna bother with the Sony domains but I see people selling domains with brand names in them .

OK. I'll hold on to them, maybe I can sell that at cost, but I won't delete them. I'm gonna start a new thread with my other generic keyword domains. Thanks for the input.

You need to read up on TM law before going hog wild on buying domains. Why do you think it was available? Its trade marked that is why. The domain name business has been going for many years. Sorry you did not come up with some great domain name. Read and start over. People that buy TM domains are naive and could loose any money they spend on them. Also you risk a big lawsuit.

Do not feel bad. Lots of newbies do it. Myself included when I first started. Once was enough to learn.

Use some common sense. Do you really think that someone registered a domain for $8 and then six months later sold it for $84,000?

This was a "best offer" sale anyway. So he probably had a $10 Million buy it now price and someone decided to jerk him around.

Wow, domain registrars need to put in huge, bold, red, italicized letters "DON'T REGISTER TRADEMARKED NAMES!!111" (I think the 1's, especially, get the point across). ;) Seriously, though, when will people learn? It seems so obvious, yet you see it all the time.

No, that seller did not receive the money, I was curious and contacted him. I also contacted another that sold an ipad domain for 50k, same story, never got the money. I guess when people sell domains for such a high price they attract a lot of pranksters, or the seller is bidding from another account so they can have the sales feedback and then after that claim they never got paid--- but I guess they could then still keep the feedback if they don't complain about the feedback itself.

You're looking to get into trouble with TM's, just because some domainers have got away with it does not mean ALL will...check out some of the cases SONY has won....
