Hey Everyone,

I am currently working on a project and we are looking to get something like this:

People can register their own emailadres, which is like [email protected]. We currently have the domain dikkop.com. Also we would like them to be able to login through our site to check their inbox!

Is something like this do-able and if yes, how?

Thanks in advance,

Klaas Koopman

every cpanel hosted domains can offer web-based login email such as this
http://yourdoman.com/webmail/
but you need to create one for them i know here of a cpanel auto account creator script for cpanel just to check the email.

if you want a remotely hosted email solution you can apply for free at http://www.everyone.net/
just like what im offering in nabaza.com/
it supports web-based realtime creation of email address using @yourdomain.com you have control on the sig, all members will carry your sig in all of their messages and they can't remove it, you share 50% of the banner displays on top, you can dispaly a full page membership lounge and also on exit the same full page containing your own content. there is free and paid version of it if your site entertain U.S. traffic you can get it for free but if not approved, you can pay. for free the email addresses you can give away are unlimited for paid there's some limit based on ordered package.

But if you want to save in the long run there's already a turnkey script for webbased email
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/webmail/index.htm
Overview:
If you've seen Hotmailโ„ข or Yahoo!Mailโ„ข, then you already know what Gossamer Mail is all about. It includes all the features you'd expect to find in a quality web based email system like:

* user customizable folders
* full MIME support for sending/receiving of attachments
* global and user-based email filters
* address book and nickname support
* supports sending/viewing of html mail
* advertisements can be added to all outgoing mail

plus some you may not expect:

* pluggable authentication - you don't need to maintain a separate user database, Gossamer Mail can integrate easily into any existing system like a web forum, a user database, LDAP, etc.
* multiple templates - you can use multiple templates set. This lets you brand the site in completely different looks, or offer your email in a variety of different languages, all without changing any code.
* unlimited domains support - Depending on your Gossamer Mail version, you can retrieve email from any number of different domains. This allows you to setup services to handle email for other sites, or handle email for your virtual hosting clients, and much more!
* easy setup - integrates easily into most mail systems - Gossamer Mail can be setup in a variety of ways, all mail goes to a single pop account, each user maps to a distinct pop account, mail gets sent directly into the program.
* WYSIWYG HTML editor included to send real HTML message with full support for inline images.

I am more interested into the script that goes through cpanel. Is it possible to have people login through the site, like with a small login box or something? And would I be able to choose the way the inbox looks? like able to skin it or something? And where can I get the script you talked about, so that people can register and get their own account?

basic source for the login box:
Code:
<form action="/login/" method="POST">
<table>
<tr><td>Username</td>

<td><input type="text" name="user" size="16"></td></tr>
<tr><td>Password</td><td><input type="password" name="pass" size="16">
</td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><div align="right">
<input type="submit" value="Login">
</div></td></tr>
</table></form>

Since these webmail applications are all open source, this is entirely
possible. The installation files for each of these applications are installed
in the following locations:

/usr/local/cpanel/base/horde
/usr/local/cpanel/base/neomail
/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/squirrelmail

Please note that cPanel will overwrite these files in the future however, and
you would need to set these directories to immutable ( read-only ) to prevent
your changes from being overwritten.

some squirrelmail skins

neomail skins:

I use squirrel mail for webmail on my blog, it's simlpe but effective!

However, be wary of cPanel, I cannot use webmail, cpanel etc at college due to the web-address concerning cpanel, webmail etc. using a port in the URL and the servers block it

i.e. www.google.com:2096 I think. Might not be the same on all hosts but check beforehand :)

I also suggest you try everyone.net to provide email service to your users, as running reliable email servers need lot of resources, and you need a good solution to fight against spam.

to reply to your pm, i don't download and use im on my computer, makes it slow and easy to hack. :)
you're welcome.

if you want to provide free 2gb for just about 99 users (1 is yours) you might want to apply for free gmail hosted domain:
https://www.google.com/hosted/register?n=home
