We actually called the real owner of the domain, according to whois, and he said that yes he is the owner, and no it's not for sale.

Different seller but exact same modus operandi

I contacted the real owner - it's yet another ebay scam. The owner said they tried this just a few days ago with this same domain.

Ebay - you suck.

BTW- ayi.com is for sale but not for $1300!!

Thank you much for early warnings! My mailbox was flooded with your emails. I am the one who purchased this “wonderful” domain on Ebay. Embarrassing…, I know. I bought hundreds of good domains on Ebay during the last 10 years and never got burned. I should have done my homework before jumping in

I'd say its the same seller. I'd clicked on a number of the itrms the original seller had bought out of interest. Same items are showing up for this seller. Also appears to be a whole bunch of people with around 14/15 feedback scores buying the same things, which could be coincidence, but, methinks not.

I contacted ebay as well - but who wants to start a pool that they do nothing and like yesterday somebody buys it before they remove it?

And just like yesterday - someone bought it before ebay pulled the auction.

Someone should go to the media about this. It's not like Ebay wasn't told by numerous people that something was wrong! It would make a great story and would hopefully get ebay to smarten up and protect buyers.

Ebay sucks, they pulled one of my auctions last month saying I used a copyrighted/trademarked name in my title for a major clothing company. Which I did in fact do. But........After repeated emails and live chats with their support team they did nothing to the other 100 plus listings which used the exact same name in their titles.

You just cant beat the big boys or even get a fair shake. Very frustrating!

I saw AYI.com yesterday and had that giddy-urgent feeling for a few seconds (you all know what I mean). I kept my cool though, especially after I saw that payment had to be made through Paypal only. I sent him a message through eBay asking if he'd accept payment through Escrow.com, said a quick prayer and went on surfing.

The second person caught up in this scam contacted me to thank thanks for flagging the fraud. So hats off to the np'ers who lead the way. Ebay still hasn't said a word or done anything.

It's moves like this that give domainers a good name!

Ebay needs to teach its customer help folks to actually read what the person says who sends a message. I have reported things numerous times and I get back responses that are generic and prove they don't care to resolve my issues as they give a canned response such as "you can find a answer in help".

I was doing some more checking into this.

clarekirk33 is now Not A Registered User. Account Created on March 17 2006 who first sold AIY.com for $1,800

tedpardini Still is Registered. Account Created on March 17 2006 and sold ANW.com for $1,400 Who is a Fraud! Beware of this User!

edwinarunning Still is Registered. Account Created on March 19 2006 sold AYI.com for $1,300 Who is also a Fraud! Beware of this User!

fernandoa7335 Still is Registered. Account Created on March 17 2006 sold ANW.com for $925.00 Who is also a Fraud! Beware of this User!

Those are the 4 User Names that I could find that are involved in this scam. I am a powerseller and have a direct phone number to my rep at ebay! I will put a call in to them in the morning! Otherwise, I will contact the news!!!!

jamie31877 good digging. And scary stuff - that an eBay user can find these fraudulent sales so easily, yet eBay themselves just allow the users to carry on.

If eBay doesn't clean up their act, another more responsible company is going to come along and taken their business from them.

Thank you Whitebark. I also "Tried" to place a call into ebay and got stuck in the Automated telephone lingo and that was a direct line! I will call again in the morning. I also reported it on the message board and asked for an admin to contact me. I went one further step and contacted all of the buyers with an email as well.
