While having trouble with my computer yesterday it came to mind that that possibly Google was intent on world domination.As i struggled to to access several sites which would not load including Namepros,Yahoo,Msn and many others,I found Google sites(search,adsense,adwords) were downloading at lightening speed.
Everything seemed ok.There was my desktop with my google tool bar which was functioning normally.My favorites tab had all my google links present and my adsense preview tool tool was in order.My folders(all titled "google-some-thing-or-other) were present as normal.
Trying everything I know twice including rebooting my computer,my router,clearing cookies, etc. for an hour it seemed Google had control over the internet or over my computer.It reminded me of one of those old science fiction movies where some massive mainframe somewhere had suddenly acheived the ability to do things its own way.
We have all seen Google rise from a funny little search engine that we occasionally bumped into now and then with a funny logo.Seemingly it was one of those not-to-be taken-seriously sites hoping to become another "Ask Jeeves." and not a real service provider.
Now some short time later we have this monster basically ruling the way people use the internet.Not content in making foreign relations with major superpowers such as China, and controlling who gets advertised and who gets paid,who's sites get seen and who's are unacceptable,low quality or simply black listed,they have made it clear that no other operation shall come before them. They have already indicated they intend on making Paypal,E-bay and any other internet powers bow down before them as they expand into every aspect of internet life.
Even the name "Google" has seemed to enter into all languages as a noun,verb,adjective and expletive.While listening to the news I just heard someone state he did not want to be "googled" for fear of the information it held on him.
With each passing day I wonder where does it go from here-when do we start paying our utility bills to Google Hydro or fly Google Airways.?Will a sandbox ever be a box containing sand ever again?
