i'm not taking any sides here, i rather open up a poll consisting of some options that you can chose from.

Should she:

Have stayed in jail and served out her full sentence?
Is the release "ok"?
..Go away and never appear in the media again?
take Mother Theresa or Lady Diana as example for her future?
GO PARTY?

Let's see what NP thinks about that.

So I'm not the only one with no idea why she got out :alien:

Good behaviour? She kicked up a huge fuss when she was jailed... and then re-jailed - she shouldn't have been let out yet, it shows shows that the judicial system can be influenced too easily.

So far i agree with all the statements above. Aside from the fact that i think she shouldn't have been released, I picked the last choice, because it won't really matter much, i think. She's not going to straighten her act up and violate her parole - at least, if she does, she thoroughly deserves her next stay in jail. Though, next time, please no preferential treatment, throw her in with the rest of the inmates.

You have to give her credit for her marketing chops, though. Here's a woman who's a spoiled socialite that does absolutely nothing, yet earns a lot of money by being nothing and just being a celebrity (of what? why, a celebrity of nothing too), and when she goes to jail (then out, then back in) gets so much TV coverage that's supposedly reserved for world events and world leaders.

You almost have to wonder if it's all a well engineered plot to hoodwink everybody into making her so much more popular ... particularly when you consider that the very thing that shot her to fame in the first place was her sex video that in many instances would have destroyed careers, and which in her case actually launched hers.

At least she served some jail time. I hope she learns her lesson.

I heard on Fox News today:
Paris is Loose!
Pun Intended!

Personally I think jail should be reserved for violent criminals. I think a lesser program should be created for people who break laws that have nothing to do with violence.

e.g. assault = jail time, driving without a license = lesser program unless you actually kill or injure someone depending on the circumstances.

i don't think like that at all, why should they be treated differently? what about rapists? they are literally scum, why should they be in a lesser program when they've committed the crime and been caught, also in jail it isn't that bad, you only see sick people like murders and rapists getting hurt by people who believe that its wrong.

I disagree. We punish people for attempted murder, even if no one actually got hurt.

If you think about it, DUI (which is what cost Paris her license in the first place) can kill - the stats support this. We don't punish DUI just because we're party-poopers, but because DUI leads to accidents, which lead to injury and death.

i will venture a guess here and say had your cousin 'joe' been arrested on DUI, heaven forbid.....nobody in the media would have covered it from the start of the story, his picture/mug shot wouldn't have been featured on ever major news network, his life wouldn't have been scrutinized by every media analyst, and he probably would have had the privelge of a little privacy during the ordeal.

now, many people say that the explotation of the story is due to this young girl's wealth and fame. many people say that she deserves every bit of punishment comming to her, even though had the very same thing happened to them, their family, their son or daughter, they would be pleading with the justice system for a little bit of leneancy. Her crime was DUI, I will venture a second guess here and say that alot of young Americans drink and drive and many of them don't get caught. Granted, it was a thin stroke of luck that nobody didn't get hurt, but i would think that this episode may have been a good wake up call. Fact of the matter is, the justice system doesn't treat DUI like attempted murder....

i have never seen so many people cheer with delight at seeing this girl in prison...and at the same time, i've never seen so much anger/frustration at the 'systems unfairness' at cutting her a break. If i had to guess, i would have to say that people like this are either utterly miserable and unhappy with their life and revel in delight at the misfortune of others (especially those wealthier than them) or they are so jealous of the rich and famous that seeing them down on their luck brightens their day.

Now, you can tell me that had this been your cousin 'joe' the court system would have been more strict....but I would disagree, especially if your cousin had no previous prior convictions. I for one, am sadden to see most americans outraged over this insignificant piece of crap they call news, yet don' t feel the same sense of outrage over the state of affairs over seas and in our government.

but i guess it's easier to expect more from celeb socialite than it is the president of the united states.

with that said, i didn't vote. the courts made the decision and she served her time. in my mind, the story's over

The sad fact is that if she loses her license she will just have to take the limo. It must really be tough to be an heiress.

I don't even think she is good looking, her face reminds me of an anemic bird. Hope she goes away. I like women to have a little meat on them shes disgusting.

... and I'm not saying it should. Attempted murder and DUI are not the same, as one is evil and the other is just plain irresponsible. That was just an extreme example to rebut the assertion that DUI should not be punished with jail time just because no one got hurt. We have lots of other acts that could get punished with jail time even though no one got hurt:

- trying to steal from the petty cash box (if caught, no one got hurt, right?)
- trying to facilitate illegal US border crossings (hey, officer, just ship them back, no harm done, see?)
- defacing public property

True, Paris' actual jail time may have been negatively affected by her celebrity status. She also had enormous legal and financial resources to help her get out of trouble, which is why she got away with her previous offenses. So it sort of balances out.

If this were my cousin joe, would we plead for leniency? Of course. We all try to get out of jail free. It would be silly not to. I mean, what do you have to lose?

The truth is that Paris is the only prisoner in the LA County Jail
that came close to serving her whole sentence.
It is policy, because of overcrowding, to release prisoners after they
serve 10% of their sentences, which is why the Sheriff tried to
release Paris early. However, the judge was embarrassed by
A standard policy he would normally accept without question,
and he ordered Paris back to jail.

I know of no news organization that reported this story honestly.
