So whats the deal with sniffing Domain searches? I have had a few taken after searching them recently. Where is the best place to check domain availability?
Be warned there is a lot of this going on.

I use Whois.sc for my searches and never ran into any problems.

I generally telnet to the whois server and query it from the command prompt, never had any problems.

Whois.sc, which are DomainTools.com now, are good.

Having had this happen to me several times in the last year (the very first time was at domaintools with a typo of "floridarealestate.com"), my advice is to:

• make a list of possible domains prior to getting on your computer

• put funds in your account before checking any domain

• sign in to your registrar and start your look ups

• purchase any dn immediately if it's available

• rinse and repeat

For me, it is hard to trust anyone at this point. I usually just reg the name right away.
