Snapnames silent Extended auction

Hello

I am looking for feedback on the current Snapnames silent auction ending January 31.

I have names listed in that auction.

1) It was my understanding it was no good to submit adult names:

***From Snapnames FAQ***
About Selling:

What domain names are the best candidates for submission?

Premium domains typically posses the following characteristics—

* A generic dictionary word or commonly searched group of words
* Broad commercial appeal
* Easy to remember, hard to misspell
* Not made up of adult or vice terms, not a trademark
* A popular TLD: .com, .org, .net, .info, .biz, .us or .mobi

****

So i am kind of surprise to find adult names in the extended auction catalog, following their FAQ I didn't submit any of mine.

2) I expected to see a number of bids listed after each name, even if there is none, date auction started, number days left etc. as it works on ANY auction

3) as a seller I have no way to log in my SnapNames account to check if there are or there are no bid on my names.

The only way is to start from the Snapnames listing and act like if i wanted to buy a name, put in it in my cart, then i can check if the price has go up or not.

And still no way to know anything about number of bids....

To make it shorter, this is no auction to me and i'd like to get some feedback on this, what others think of this "extended auction".

Thanks

L.

Hi Lola

I share your frustration with the lack of easy access to follow the progress of the sales; it is possible to download a current list with the bid amounts instead of just clicking on one name at a time but it is far from clear how to do this - it definitely needs improving & I will speak to my account manager at Moniker & see if this can be improved on for next time.

I have a few names in the sale but it has been nigh on impossible to track them; I'm just waiting until the end of the sale to see what happened!

The adult names you see are there because they are part of the Internext Adult Sale from last week, so until the next 'adult sale' you shouldn't see any more xxx names go through.

Regards

Hi

Where do you get the link to download current list with bid amount?

Concerning the adult names listed in Snapnames extended auction, If you are referring to the Moniker adult auction ending today, names like sex247, sexualorgasm etc. where not listed in the Moniker catalog of adult names, there are not even on the Moniker list here

http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/auction/events/185/silent_auction.html

So, where do they come from, why they end up now in SnapNames extended auction?

I have nothing against SnapNames selling adult names in the extended auction but they should have modify the FAQ before submission...

Still, the whole stuff doesn't look like an auction to me and Porn.net does look llike an adult name

I have to confess that I find the interface quite confusing & I can't talk you through the process of getting the list up.... it was more luck than judgement when I did it ;)

As for listings? I couldn't tell you how they do it.... I did comment that Moniker / Traffic / Snap had a selection process for their auctions that consisted of drawing up two lists;

One for names that looked great & had potential & one for names that were pretty average or worse...

Then they shred the list of great names & auction off the rubbish...

Well, thats how it looks to me ;)

I think they rely on to many 'appraisal' tools / measures that simply don't fit any more!

Can anyone list what domains have bids on them so far, or is this impossible at the time? :-/

Looks like it is impossible at ANY time to check anything on this so called "auction".

I can imagine the result of selling items the same way on Ebay....especially with under every name listed for sale a link to SnapNames own catalog suggesting to buy a similar name for less....

Everyone can click on a name, seller or buyer but then what?

An auction implies sellers AND buyers, without sellers there is no auction.

As a seller i don't see any reason why i can't check if there are bids or not on ALL names, i don't feel like going manually through every single name to check nothing because (beside my names) i don't know the starting price so it won't tell me much.

Nobody knows anything about the amount of bids and this make a huge difference when you auction something.

Nobody auctioned names (or whatever) this way, check Afternic, Sedo, Ebay etc.

The thing going on right now is like a regular catalog of names for sale BUT it is not an auction. and on top of this, I didn't submit my names for the fun of sending trafic to "similar and cheaper" other domain names.

hey Lola

Welcome to the world of domaining. Where double talk is the name of the game.
Just read up the TOS of any parking service. Most will say that they do not allow TM names, or offensive and adult names. But they do, against their own TOS.

well, you know i am not that much concern by the adult names than by the way this so called "auction" is going on.

I submit names for auction with the idea to get as much bidders as possible to look at them and eventually bid and buy, i expected an auction like ALL other auction sites do, i didn't expect a listing of names without any indication of anything, no information at all for the seller and not much more for the buyer either, + all names used to advertise cheaper names on SnapNames catalog.

....

Honestly what are the odds of selling domain names this way? This listing is just as boring as possible, does it give somebody the desire to buy? I doubt very much.

As I said before, imagine the same boring listing of items for "auction" on Ebay displaying no price, no details, no bids, no date, nothing but names!

We got Cars for auction today check it out!

car1
car2
car3
car4
...
car 4245

etc....

This is list of domains which has already bid(s) on it in Domainfest silent auction at Snapnames. This list is NOT complete, it is only domains from my "interest list", so some might (and probably are) missing.

The auction ends 31.1. 12:15PDT and smart bidders will bid at the last moment so that nobody like me can discover there is a bid on a domain and direct attention to it. However you can bid on these domains as they are already "disclosed" here anyway...

Snapnames published the results from the extended auction, it's very interesting...

I throw here some randomly choosen results with the min. price to bid as of January 26th and the price they end up on January 31st

sex247.com = $5,250 sold - $5,000
skivillas.com = $5,250 sold - $5,000
birthdaystore.com = $5,250 sold - $5,000
removestains.com = $5,250 sold - $5,000
homebizguru.com = $123 sold = $113
corrected.com = $3,600 ... vanished
pulsing.com = $2,600 ... vanished
codeshare.com = $2,600 sold = $2,500
nationallawfirms.com = $3,100 sold = $3,000
getbookie.com = $275 sold - $250

etc. etc.

I didn't check them all because it's boring BUT prices were supposed to go up, not down, right?

lol man

Straighten.org for $1

the owner would've got mid xx at the forums.

And look at all the LLL.net and LLL.org names. Going FAR below reseller prices. QVR.net for $655! That would've fetched $750 at the forums on its worst day.

Snap made a mess of this. I'm not entering my names with them anytime soon.

sex247.com = $5,250 sold - $5,000
I didn't check them all because it's boring BUT prices were supposed to go up, not down, right?
No it was
Reserve $5000 (someone bid that)
Then if someone else wanted to join auction would need to bid $5,250, but as nobody else joined it sold for a reserve.
The "vanished" people probably retracted the bid as mistake OR seller retracted the domain as he saw the auciton will be no good.

Sure, since day one it was obivous the so called "auction" will be no good at all.

I do not understand how can one sell a name $1 or $8, $10 and pay Snapnames fees, 15% if i recall.

What is the benefit of this type of transaction?
