I have an opportunity to register a single word .ws domain. The .com version of this domain, according to estibot, is worth $610,000. It is an adult term. Should I register it?

I wouldn't get too overly crazy with the Estibot .COM $XXX,xxx number, first of all IMHO.

Even if the .COM was worth, say, high $X,xxx (truly) ... the same term in the .WS may very well only be worth, say, $Xx - low $Xxx, at the end of the day. Ask yourself ... why is it available to register right now for a mere .WS Reg. fee? :gl:

If you have development plans, or after further .WS research (sales comp's, etc.) you decide to purchase the domain name ... I wish you all the best! :music: :imho:

If the .com was worth High $x,xxx I don't think that the .ws would be worth really more much more than reg fee IMO as it's a crap extention.

:hi:

If you want to reg this adult .WS domain because you think it will be
valuable because of Estibot's valuation of the .COM, think again.

On the other hand, if you are willing to risk $8, then give it a try.

Dynadot.com offers .WS reg for $7.99.

Or you could use GoDaddy but their renewal rate is usually higher than the initial registration rate unless you can find a coupon code that will work.

It's worth reg fee. And will continue to be worth reg fee until you develop it and start making some income from it. Then it'll be worth x times your income.

I've registered a hundred or so single word .ws domains in the last year from drops. Simply as keywords for SEO I think they have some value over reg fee. Even if I register a .ws at $10 and keep it 5 years I have $50 in it. Even if I only get $300 for it, that's a much greater rate than if I put the money in the bank. I do think a lot of them are easily worth $xxx if you are patient enough to wait for the right buyer, and not so greedy as to set asking prices at $xx,xxx.

It also depends on your cash flow and what you expect in return. Normally you won't get PPC income from .ws domains, so you can't count on making the renewal fees that way. The value is in finding a buyer who wants that keyword. The more of the gTLD's of that name that are really in use, the better chance you'll sell it in a reasonable time. Generally, if biz/info/us are available, pass on a .ws. If the at least 2-3 of the major TLD's are developed (not parked), then there probably is a buyer if you price it reasonably and the secondary gTLD's are highly priced. I sold a few last year in the $250-300 price range, with costs in the $10-50 range. I won't retire on it, but it is income and cash flow, as well as offers a little diversification.

did you actively market those .ws you sold or were you approached by the buyers?

.Ws domains can't transferred between Registrars.

"Superman.ws" sold $2,050 at year 2007

My buyers came to me with offers either from whois or from parked for sale pages.

Registering an adult .WS name where the .COM variant is worth XXXX ? I would do it, for sure. .WS is cheap anyway, what have you got to lose? In adult names more than any other type of domains, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the extention. Sex sells, and adult site browsers will visit the sites that are available even if has a .WS domain. So I would go for it and register, you may not get thousands of dollars for it but even if you sell for only a couple of hundred it is still a nice profit. :$:
