GDay Everyone,

I was curious to see what others think of my latest creation:

www.SingerSusanBoyle.com

As an amateur Developer (and amateur Domainer), I am limited to my ability to make grand-standing sites (yet), but have come up with this humble offering as further study and experience to getting better.

That is to say, this is just a customized HTML template simply laid-out with 5 pages of information (text and images) summarizing the latest sensation, Miss Susan Boyle of Scotland, with her recent 'Susan-sational' performance in BGT and on YouTube - selling the World Record for Views in a Week (and no doubt on her way to the all-time record for views too).

Does the design fit the subject matter?

Is it easy-to-read? ...entertaining?

What turns-you-off about this site? ...turns-you on?

See any way to improve SEO?

I plan to add a Photo and Video Blog along with streaming radio and a forum as time permits.

I appreciate your constructive feedback!

Well, its a good start but here are somethings you can do

Get rid of the annoying ads at the top of the page. If you free hosts pouts them there than get another one (stonerocket is really good) becuase they make the page look crap.

Center the infomation, its very squished together and not very easy to read plus you have lots of empty space.

Thoes are just some of the main things, pm and ill review it again when it youv fixed thoes issues

The layout breaks up for me in FF on Mac OSX. I agree about the ads, I would opt for a free host that doesn't ruin your website design.

Dont center text at all!!!

I assume you are using a template? Because the code validation is atrocious - meaning you'd be limiting your viewers tremdously.

Does the design fit the subject matter?
Somewhat, it's just floral. Pretty generic design, in honest words. It's not bad though, don't get me wrong. I would suggest redoing it, or outsourcing it to a professional, you can get it pretty cheap actually, even from me. ;]

Is it easy-to-read? ...entertaining?
It is easy to read, but you gotta understand that because it entertains you, it doesn't entertain everybody. I mean, it will entertain anybody that likes Susan Boyle, for sure, I've just never even heard of her. :P It's all about niches. The niche with the largest group or community that supports it, the more visitors you'll have that are genuinely interested.

What turns-you-off about this site? ...turns-you on?
The advertisements, flat out. Ad placement is a key to earning money through ads. Never put them at the very top of your site, it makes it look spammy. What really bothered me when I opened up the page was a pop-up. NOBODY likes those, I don't even know why they're still LEGAL.

See any way to improve SEO?
Well, I'm not a huge SEO buff, but there's always ways to improve on SEO. Because link building is a big part of SEO, you'll always be able to improve on that. Getting your site to #1 in search engines for specific keywords is going to take a long time, regardless of what your site is about.

I hope I've helped. +rep is appreciated, but not required.

WOW - Thanks everyone for the GREAT FEEDBACK!

I have learnt so much just from your quick feedback and it's already made me a beter developer - so for that, I am grateful.

At 1st I was thinking I wish I had some NP$ to donate, but I forget about Rep Points! Reputation Points coming-up All Around!! You guys are great! It's nice to see the community support for a Newbie here @ NP :)

I'll start addressing the above issues today and see where it goes get back to this thread with the results.

re: Ads - unforetunately, they are just there while I wait to get ad-free hosting set-up (I'll check-out stonerocket). I wanted to get the site up now, start building traffic and get some feedback, and while have those ads/pop-ups gone soon. (It was a sacrifice I had to make just to get things up and running as best I knew how).

Please Keep It Coming!

PS: Social Bookmarking (from social-bookmark-script.com/) has now been added.

PPS: Anyone know where to get Subject Specific RSS News Feeds? (that is, a subject one can define, such as with 'Susan Boyle' versus being limited to choose from generic Categories of News (ex: Arts & People)?

*UPDATE*

Please check-out the next version of:

www.SingerSusanBoyle.com

I upgraded the template, added additional content w/ ad-free hosting.

With feedback from a number of sources/people - this is what I came-up with next (within my limits of $ and ability).

Better?

PS: How do I give Rep Points? (...and Yes, I am being lazy to search around :P )

PPS: Anyone know of a decent FREE comment script? Cheers!
