To be blunt: I need a way to manage a bulk of domains. It can be either a site, program or a set of scripts that I can upload to my server. This needs to be able to monitor the domains I enter into it or it will at least need to display basic info for the domains (registrar, expiration date etc) Could anyone recommend me a management tool like this, preferably free?

Domain Research Tool can do what you are looking for. You can get it for as cheap as $129 one time fee after coupon.

It also has a lot of other features that are very useful like list filtering.

I've tried their demo. I love it. But right now, I'm needing a cheaper/free thing.

Domaintools.com is great but I have a large bulk of domains to mess with & DT is limiting on that

I personally would not use domain tools to monitor my domains. The site is extremely useful and has some good tools however the monitoring tool isn't much use.

I renewed a domain a while back, it took domain tools 2 months or before they noticed.

You could either try the previously mentioned research tool. Domain punch pro (also paid for), my portfolio script (still in Beta but free) or second versions portfolio script (also free).

On Mac, I use RAGE Domainer, http://www.ragesw.com/products/domainer.html, but I am not entirely satisfied, since it lacks fields which would be useful for domainers (e.g. price bought, sold, etc.). And it can only retrieve info for the most common TLDs. However, currently, it is the only working solution for Mac, although It is sometimes slow past the 500 domain names mark. I am still hoping for some optimal Mac domainer's tool to appear on the market - in the meantime, I hope that RAGE Domainer will improve.

Almost all huge domain name registrars provide their customers with an opportunity to manage bulk domains!

True, but on GD, you have to go through levels of GoDaddy Girls (boring) to get where you want to go. And when you get there, it's so damned slow.

Grrrr!

I have started regging at Dynadot.

Hi,

This may satisfy your needs and it's free...at least for now.

You don't have to download anything either.

It's called DNZoom.

Read about it here:
http://www.dnzoom.com/

And here:

I agree that DNZoom is nice, although not always fast.
However, I prefer not to use a web-based tool: what happens if DNZoom is down, or anything like that? I do much prefer to manage domain names on my Mac/PC.

Hi,

If you prefer to use software that you download to your Server, then
consider using Watch My Domains Pro.

http://www.domainpunch.com/products/wmdpro/

There is a free trial and then it's $49 for a single license.

Sometimes you do have to raid the piggy bank. :)

Andrew Allemann from DomainNameWire.com uses it:
"How to Get Control of Your Domain Name Empire"

http://domainnamewire.com/2007/04/11/how-to-get-control-of-your-domain-name-empire/

and

http://domainnamewire.com/2008/10/06/10-things-id-do-if-i-were-a-new-domainer/

Excerpt:
"6. Use a domain management tool — from the start. Like many people, I didn’t keep track of the domains I owned when I started. Then I migrated to a clunky spreadsheet before finding Watch My Domains Pro. Go ahead and track your domains the right way from the start."

P.S. Andrew wouldn't lie! :)

Thanks to you all. I've repped all of you.

I will try a few of these to see which works best for me. I don't need anything too powerful but I hope one of these will do the job :)

Oh, I concur with the above: GoDaddy shows too many GD-Girl ads and once I get to where I need, it's slow. So that's not much of an option :)

Interesting little script there Peter. I'll be sure to test it.

I was also wondering if Dnzoom would work offline with Google Gears?

regarding GoDaddy ...

make a favorite for ... https://dcc.godaddy.com/default.aspx

then use that favorite to go staight to the the above mentioned page which forwards you to the log-in page for DCC (Domain Control Center) without passing through the homepage

also , hover over 'Tools' tab in the DCC >>> click on 'Customize All My Domains Grid' >>> on the bottom choose 'Display per page' to 25 ... this speeds up the time that a page loads in the DCC by quite a lot

also learn how to use 'Preset Profiles' , 'Search' and 'Bulk Search'

note: the above is regarding using GoDaddy more efficiently and not regarding other management tools someone might want to use
