Sign of the times?

Just looked at the homepage of the supposed number one for domain name sales/ auctions.

They have a link that says 1390 names on auction. On checking about 50 actually have bids, the majority of which are under 200 dollars most of which will have been " sent to auction".

The reminder are either the 0-99 dollar bottom of the barrel names or simply scheduled for auction, not actually on auction.

A sign of the times?

At some point, people will realize that domains are overpriced.
The day will come when endusers, from a large company to a guy just getting on the net, will not pay much over reg fee for a domain.

I would imagine this is a long time away though. Markets are driven by supply and demand and there is certainly still demand out there.

End-users are finding alternatives away from the keyword domains. They now register either brandables, or bastardized keywords which are mostly reg fee/unregistered. Because brandables/bastardized domains have very little competition, Domainers are often willing to sell them cheap because there might not be another buyer coming along to stop their annual renewal bleeding.

Given that search engines nowadays are learning to be content-centric, End-Users are also realizing that you CAN rank on top of search results even without using a blockbuster keyword domain.

A quality domain is still important. I just got a call the other day where the user said he already had the .com and .net so he did not need my domain. I told him that was fine, but that does not mean I'm about to negotiate. People are still creating businesses everyday. With population increasing, and the younger generation being more tech savvy, the need for domains is very strong in my opinion.

Sedo? It probably is a 'sign of the times' for Sedo, but not for the domain industry as a whole.

I am having the worst year for sales in the last ten years and I know I am not alone you are obviously lucky or have names people want.

Huge supply, limited and (time-sensitive) demand. Nothing new.

A sign of the times?

:talk:

that "sign" was lit-up, back in the day, with services like clubdrop, namewinner, snapcheck, sedo, afternic, clickmojo and the rest

clubdrop had a "reverse auction", which sold off some quality names at low prices. then "they" (enom) caught on to the domain game and namejet was born.

just the term "auction" being used in tagline, stirs the frenzy, so the term is widely used to hopefully capitalize on bidding wars...to increase roi for the sponsor.

can be a psych game, if you get caught up.

imo...
