I got - SmartSpeaker (com) ..........what the voice comes out of
Thanks for your reply Bob.
Yes, number 3 is likely. Just like there are thousands of digital agencies around the world specialising in websites, app, SEO, marketing, design and such, I predict we'll see similar type of companies pop up specialising in VUI's.
Whether VUI will become the defacto term for it, only time will tell. But at the moment it is looking good. Plenty of companies branding themself as VUI whatever, and plenty of job postings looking for VUI designers, developers and such out there.
Thanks @Dave for the thread, much obliged.
I've never heard of the actual term "Voice User Interface" before, even though it's known to have first been utilized in mobile phones many years ago (in the form of voice-activated dialing).
So I subsequently hand-registered (believe it or not) the exact domain in my local ccTLD. This kind of "future-tech" really excites me from an entrepreneurial standpoint. It's integration and uses with machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and similar seems almost logical (in relation to technological evolution). In addition, there are already several providers offering such B2B services here in South Africa.
I hand-registered VUI (in the South African .co.za extension) yesterday.
PS* I'm open to considering a joint venture if anyone's interested - local or abroad
Same here, Dave. Who besides insiders and psychic genies would have thought that CBD would hype like it does as a product category and in domaining, remember it is not really pronouncable. VUI passes the radio test (FUI? WUI?) and thanks to your thread the community is at an early stage to invest.
I found nearly 100 available proper 2-word cominations for VUI. About the same number of my domain searches is taken in .com.
There are no big sales known for GUI. It is a user interface, too. Being a website dev tool it is not comparable with voice commands for maybe every field of life in the future, isn´t it?
I believe I have to sleep on it first.
To many abbreviations are fashionable at present.
But before I go to bed I thought to take the following names in .com:
CamVUI + VUIcam
CarVUI + VUIcar
SearchVUI + VUISearch (Must be bad if available. However, search was the origin.)
I call it an experiment.
Thank you for your post.
The difference between GUI and VUI, is that 'graphics' was a ready made replacement for it. There is no replacement for VUI because it's more than just 'voice'.
Early signs are promising with even the big boys like Amazon and Google describing them as 'vui' than anything else.
I genuinely believe Vui will become the defacto norm in branding for companies that specialise in them.
Someone got VUI Jobs - I was meaning to register it.. Kindly DM me if you're ( it's for a personal project ) Thanks! 😃
Another step towards the Billionaire . I like this name very much.
So are LLLs not sold out in South Africa?
This one was taken four days ago by a lucky guy, who probably has stumbled over this thread.
I would like to have VUI Media, because media are the engine to be piloted by VUI if I understand this project, but it is gone since more than a year. You see quite often that terms are taken a long time before the crowd is discussing them. The registrants are often the same dirty dozen of successful domainers.
Thought this was a pretty cool application for VUI
Company Website: https://www.visix.com
Dave, you got me. Just had a sudden FOMO experience.
So I registered in .com:
VUIAR / Vui and Augmented Reality
VUISE / Vui Software Engineers
VoiceOS (Voice Operating Sytem) in king
Voice-Api in king
Congrats, these were top on my watchlist from 12 hours ago.
Evidently not, although they mostly do get snatched up soon after they drop. I haven't properly checked but they're not nearly (if at all) as liquid as more universal 3L TLDs. Hence, there are less than a handful of really-serious South African domain investors who hold large portfolios of premium domains (I'm referring to guys who went as far as to register themselves as registrars with the .co.za registry).
I don't do outbound, but based on my personal experience (and namebio sales data) the .co.za ccTLD's are slow sellers. So I generally stick to the rule of "don't buy unless you intend developing on it". That said, the development space is a genuine hub for great opportunities here in South Africa.
So I won't necessarily advise anyone to invest in .co.za domains if their intentions are to resell (IMO) only. Again, I'm not saying that none sell. I am merely talking numbers, as it's a better bet to invest in a dropped .com as opposed to .co.za in terms of reselling.
I think Voice or Talking should be more popular for domain names, rather than VUI, talking in the general sense. (from an end user point of view).
Just my thoughts - voice is a tremendous industry and only growing larger every month. Voice is being integrated into everything.
Its less likely to be regulated like CBD, vaping, crypto, etc.. I held voice.io for a 5 or so years and sold it recently for 5 figures. Coupled with AI and tech in general, its the now and its the future.
You are probably right. However, speaking for voice every good name is taken. Domainer stands on a crossing: buy one good name in the aftermarket to sell it better later like Agame did:
Or register several vui names based on this well-known mix of intuition and hope, spend the same amount of money over the years and perhaps never sell one name.
There is another side. Voice has several hundred trademarks on it. It is risky to invest a lot of money and lose the name in UDRP. Handregs are dropped or handed out more easily, just in case you made a legal mistake.
I can find just two valid national figurative marks for VUI, building names seems to be riskless from that perspective.
For me the most promising signs are big players like Amazon even advertising for 'VUI' when I search it on Google.
Still on the fence about whether VUI will really be used much for branding. I think it’s a long shot, but as @Dave said it’s maybe worth a couple of reg’s. Thanks for the heads up. I’m done.
Don't get me wrong guys. I do believe VUI as a term will hold its ground in technical references, Specialist software development/developers etc etc. But it's NOT the one that will interact at the public perception level, Product advertising and naming etc etc.
The Companies wont use it for products etc because it simply won't gain the level of public awareness and 'Relationship' that is required.
Good luck to you guys that have the high ground in technical/job reference terms etc. The rest I'm sorry to say already missed the boat when the key term of Voice was still in domain investment stage (probably around 10 years ago)
What will they say about VUI in ten years from now?
I just did a Google search for "vui" and they show 279 Million results. This doesn´t mean anything, and Voice has nearly ten-fold search results and I did not check the share of searches for the show "The Voice".
The more interesting thing is that I found a VUI startup by accident a few km away from my apartment of which I´d never heard before. Take a look: VUI.agency
Just registered VUI Flow .king
Already register the above domain before and thought I should research related names. I found VoiceFlow .king sold in 2015 xx, xxx and in use.
@Dave how about consonant+vui.com? i found 4L like that. is good to acquired?
I do not use smart assistants and voice search myself. I am busy enough doing these callcenter phone inquiries, answering several questions with yes or no - We did not understand you. Please repeat! - before hanging in the waiting loop for minutes.
This allday experience let me register Vui.si
(Slovenian ccTLD but with its affirmative character useful for the Italian, Spanish and Latin American markets, too.)
Vui is massive, everyone is using it
Want to make a quick flip again9
Separate names with a comma.
