Voice as UI could be big. Millions use it everyday when they ask their Alexa or what not to do something.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_user_interface
https://www.i-programmer.info/news/146-uiux/10488-the-state-of-voice-as-ui.html

I think in the future we'll see more startups and companies in this space that specialise in VUI's and creating voice interfaces.

Here are just some of the startups or companies in this space:

https://vui.com/
https://vui.agency/
https://vuiskitchen.com/
https://tortu.io/
https://vuix.io/

At the moment I have just these two:

VoiceAsUi.com
VuiPro.com

What do you all think?

Will you be jumping on the VUI or Voice UI bandwagon?

Thanks for starting the thread @Dave Clearly I have some reading and research to do.

I think the change is broader than simply the voice interface since the underlying machine learning to get better at giving you what you want, perhaps employing reinforcement learning, is key.

While I agree the area will be big, it is less obvious to me what type of domain will match it.
  1. Will it be acronyms and generic words about the technologies as noted above?
  2. Will it be cute brandable names for the consumer interfaces like we have seen with Siri, Alexa etc.
  3. Will the market be mainly for consulting firms and professionals serving the industry?
I don't know.

Bob

Thanks for your reply Bob.

Yes, number 3 is likely. Just like there are thousands of digital agencies around the world specialising in websites, app, SEO, marketing, design and such, I predict we'll see similar type of companies pop up specialising in VUI's.

Whether VUI will become the defacto term for it, only time will tell. But at the moment it is looking good. Plenty of companies branding themself as VUI whatever, and plenty of job postings looking for VUI designers, developers and such out there.

Just my thoughts - voice is a tremendous industry and only growing larger every month. Voice is being integrated into everything.

Its less likely to be regulated like CBD, vaping, crypto, etc.. I held voice.io for a 5 or so years and sold it recently for 5 figures. Coupled with AI and tech in general, its the now and its the future.

For me the most promising signs are big players like Amazon even advertising for 'VUI' when I search it on Google.

Already developed.....

vui.com/about-vui_new

Yep. Just look at how frequently they use VUI in their content. They also advertise for a VUI designer, like many others do.

Again, I strongly believe that within a few years more startups that specialise in VUI will launch, and they'll all be looking for a domain and branding.

To everyone who is looking at this from a consumer perspective, don't. I think this is going to be primarily B2B, with these startups offering their expertise and skills in vui.

Interesting space. Don't have any "vui" names, but I have Poptalk.com, which is a nice brand name in that field. Registered in 98 with .ai / .io and several other tlds developed.

So while we'll see startups with "vui" names, others will likely want brandable names - as @Bob Hawkes touched on.

Thanks @Dave for the thread, much obliged.

I've never heard of the actual term "Voice User Interface" before, even though it's known to have first been utilized in mobile phones many years ago (in the form of voice-activated dialing).

So I subsequently hand-registered (believe it or not) the exact domain in my local ccTLD. This kind of "future-tech" really excites me from an entrepreneurial standpoint. It's integration and uses with machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and similar seems almost logical (in relation to technological evolution). In addition, there are already several providers offering such B2B services here in South Africa.

I hand-registered VUI (in the South African .co.za extension) yesterday.

PS* I'm open to considering a joint venture if anyone's interested - local or abroad :xf.smile:

Don't be like me when I allowed crypto, bitcoin and CBD to pass me by. I recall a crypto thread like this way back in 2010 and just ignored it.
Same here, Dave. Who besides insiders and psychic genies would have thought that CBD would hype like it does as a product category and in domaining, remember it is not really pronouncable. VUI passes the radio test (FUI? WUI?) and thanks to your thread the community is at an early stage to invest.

I found nearly 100 available proper 2-word cominations for VUI. About the same number of my domain searches is taken in .com.

There are no big sales known for GUI. It is a user interface, too. Being a website dev tool it is not comparable with voice commands for maybe every field of life in the future, isn´t it?

I believe I have to sleep on it first.
To many abbreviations are fashionable at present.
But before I go to bed I thought to take the following names in .com:

CamVUI + VUIcam
Car
VUI + VUIcar
FinVUI

MedicalVUI
SearchVUI + VUISearch (Must be bad if available. However, search was the origin.)
TeleVUI

VUIaas
VUIcenter
VUIcomputing
VUIdevice
VUIdocumentation
VUImed
VUIprototyping
I call it an experiment.

Thank you for your post.

The difference between GUI and VUI, is that 'graphics' was a ready made replacement for it. There is no replacement for VUI because it's more than just 'voice'.

Early signs are promising with even the big boys like Amazon and Google describing them as 'vui' than anything else.

I genuinely believe Vui will become the defacto norm in branding for companies that specialise in them.

Thanks

I think Voice or Talking should be more popular for domain names, rather than VUI, talking in the general sense. (from an end user point of view).
You are probably right. However, speaking for voice every good name is taken. Domainer stands on a crossing: buy one good name in the aftermarket to sell it better later like Agame did:
I held voice.io for a 5 or so years and sold it recently for 5 figures.
Or register several vui names based on this well-known mix of intuition and hope, spend the same amount of money over the years and perhaps never sell one name.

There is another side. Voice has several hundred trademarks on it. It is risky to invest a lot of money and lose the name in UDRP. Handregs are dropped or handed out more easily, just in case you made a legal mistake.
I can find just two valid national figurative marks for VUI, building names seems to be riskless from that perspective.

Still on the fence about whether VUI will really be used much for branding. I think it’s a long shot, but as @Dave said it’s maybe worth a couple of reg’s. Thanks for the heads up. I’m done.

VUI//Pay
