Chatbot market will reach $3,172 million by 2021

Bots are software programs designed to automate a task, chatbots follow the same principle. In the case of chatbots, the software performs a singular task i.e striking up a chat or conversation.

Chatbots use machine learning to simulate a conversation with a human user and mimic the approach of a human in a conversation, thus, delivering proper answers or information asked by the users.

Yeah totally agree! I personally think the 'chatbot' term will adopt 'bot' from robotics over the coming years, it will still keep the meaning of robot but in a personal assistant way through a chatbot.

Black Mirrorโ€™ Is Real: A Woman Is Texting Her Dead Friend โ€” And You Can, Too!

One of the most memorable episodes of Charlie Brookerโ€˜s terrifying social satire Black Mirror is real. โ€œBe Right Backโ€ features Hayley Atwell as a grieving widow who signs up for a service that uploads her dead husband Ashโ€™s (Domhnall Gleeson) social media consciousness into a cloud service so she can text him. Eventually she becomes hooked and upgrades to a version of the cyber consciousness that lives inside an android that looks just like him. Itโ€™s a haunting look at how our online relationships canโ€™t quite replace the real thing โ€” and yes, itโ€™s now real.

The Verge has a fascinating long piece about Russian engineer Eugenia Kuyda. She has succeeded in uploading her dead best friend Roman Mazurenkoโ€™s digital consciousness into a texting bot interface. Kuyda is the co-founder of Luka, an A.I. startup, and she gathered Mazurenkoโ€™s text messages and applied them to one of her companyโ€™s creations. The end result? You can text with the dead. Yes! You! If you have the Luka app, you can communicate with Mazurenkoโ€™s digital ghost in either Russian or English by messaging @Roman.

The Vergeโ€™s piece is a beautiful elegy to Mazurenko, a celebration of Kuydaโ€™s accomplishment, and a meditation on the morality of it all. The piece even calls out the Black Mirror episode, โ€œBe Right Back,โ€ as a piece of inspiration. Kuyda watched it after Mazurenkoโ€™s untimely passing โ€” he was struck in an automobile accident โ€” and felt torn about the implications of creating a โ€œMemorial bot.โ€ She told The Verge: โ€œItโ€™s definitely the future โ€” Iโ€™m always for the future, but is it really whatโ€™s beneficial for us? Is it letting go, by forcing you to actually feel everything? Or is it just having a dead person in your attic? Where is the line? Where are we? It screws with your brain.โ€

HologramBot

So, Barbieโ€™s a Hologram Now. Oh, and She Responds to Your Voice

MATTEL INTRODUCED ITS FIRST Barbie doll way back in 1959, and sheโ€™s found herself at the center of cultural controversy ever since. To her credit, she keeps adapting to the times.

Today she is actually several Barbies, a gang of dolls more diverse and less infuriating in terms of body proportions. And sheโ€™s enjoyed an enviable career path, with stints as an astronaut, a sk8er, the president and vice president of the United States, and a rapper, among other things. Now, at age 58, Barbie is a hologram. And I donโ€™t mean one of Jemโ€™s backup singers.

Hello Barbie Hologram is a small box containing an animated projection of Barbie that responds to voice commands. It combines motion-capture animation with Amazon Echo-style voice interactions, and it arrives in stores later this year.
