question Should we use HugeDomains/buydomains/domainmarket list as comps?

Hey guys,
Though about this now.

Every domainer knows HugeDomasin, BuyDomains and Domainmarket.com.
They are industry leaders in selling domains.

That said since many on here keep saying in their domain auctions on NP or simply domain listing is listed with Brandbucket or Brandpa or whatever. Why not list all domains with hugedomains, buydomains, domainmarket that contain the keywords in your domain?

For example, I know many here have "Coin" domains.

So a simple search on HugeDomains nets over 7,255 Domains. Not going to list them here and give them free press.
DomainMarket? 200 domains
BuyDomains? 6,530 domains


The mindset being if selling to domainers who know these sites and the quality of their domains or maybe not the quality of their domains (everybody has their opinion but none can deny how big they are).

We use Namebio sales as comps. But what about the domains HugeDomains choose to pay $59 or whatever price at Dropcatch to get a domain? Not to mention if the domain goes to auction?

If there are bigger companies like this that has bigger inventories please share here. But only big domainers that have public lists that can

if say you are selling a domain at auction with a starting bid of $25. wouldn't it be logical to say that if a domain with a keyword "Coin" and with a decent secondary keyword is being sold on HugeDomains for $5000 then bidding on your "coin" domain at $25 is a good bet?

Especially when hugedomains CONSISTENTLY secures it's domains via dropcatch's $59 per domain dropcatch service?

Many on here are "Mom and Pop" domainers. HugeDomains is big. So is DomainMarket.

Mom and Pop's don't have the resources to research certain keywords. Every decision made to get a domain is done so buy a big company so their choices should not be overlooked.

When Jared Kushner started buying property in my area of Jersey City. Every real estate investor started buying every house around the land he bought in the area just because it was Jared Kushner buying property in the area.

Isn't this the same thing? Sort of? The assumption of course is that they know what they are doing right?

Of course I'm not suggesting promoting the portfolios of these big guys. So why not just make a list like below. Sample "Coin" list from hugedomains. Obfuscated.

Looking at this list above kinda also made me realize that showing this list and comparing it to your own domain might also benefit in selling seeing how some of these domains are pretty awful. (sorry hugedomains) I mean did they really pay $59 dropcatch for these?or simply handreg once they deleted?

like say CoinBitcoin.com auction No Reserve Start $25

and in the promo for this auction mention the list above. Of course add other stats like Namebio and search results and monthly keyword searches for keywords in your domain.

Unless it's actually been sold by them its not really a comp. Comps are sales not listings in domains or real estate. But no they don't spend $59. Huge domains, name bright, and drop catch are all part of the same company. They charge us $59 to use drop catch, they in the end are only paying the fee to the registry for theirs.

The problem with their inventory is they are operating at such large scale everything including selection and pricing of domains is all automated. Thus you see it is full of a lot of garbage, but it's a volume play for them if they know that can get say a 2% sell though rate, they want to acquire as many names as they can to increase sales. Personally I rather put in some effort into selecting better names.

I get what you are saying but like @Ryan217 pointed out they are not comps. And secondly I think what you are trying to correlate is, "Hey guys I am starting an auction with Coin as the first keyword, look at how HugeDomains and DomainMarket price similar names, so you should definitely give me $25 starting bid"

I understand the premise, but a couple things, some domainers never want to buy from another domainer, secondly they don't care what those other companies are listing their names for. For the most part everyone in the marketplace here is looking to buy a $1 for a dime, some might go as high as .75 but no one truly wants to give you fair value, (if their is one to be determined).

There is a lot of psychology behind auctions and even more so about auctions here.

I have started an auction $20 starting bid, (just to switch it up, I always advise people to start at $1) no bids and as I always do no bids for an hour, delete the sales thread.

Came back two days later started at $1, and then see the auction go to $100, or $150. People want to start out at the $1 and then when someone else bids, that provides some proof to them that they were right the name was a good name, then you get the bidding war, best is when it's two members here who don't like or hate one another. Then you get the "I am not letting them win, no way" That's a jackpot for the seller.

Hi I want to buy your CVCV same repeating letters .com. FoFo.com. Great DuDu.com sold for $1million so that's the comp. Oh cool well I found LoLo.com for $21,000 so that's the comp I would like to use for FoFo.com. By my looks of the comps Lolo.com sold for $37,000 once and then that seller took a $16,000 loss so it seems the comps are going down, I am just an outsider starting a business, am I reading your highly touted sales reports correctly?

So best to do your own negotiation and not use one off transactions to justify your price. That works more when 4L and 5N were selling as a wholesale commodity when the China buying binge was going on with all those Chip categories.
