I bought the name SushiTu.com and gave it a shot for a year. It's expiring soon.

It never got any offers, so I was planning on letting it go. But within the last few days, the views on Afternic have started creeping up.

Do you think someone might be waiting for it to expire, or is it just random activity that's best ignored, like most domain stats?

IMO Better renew, It has potentials but not for 4k as listed, below 2k will increase chance of selling .

Lower the price $100 every month so if in another year and it's down to $800 and nobody took it by then you'll feel better letting it expire if ya choose that route but hopefully it sells on the slow path from 2k to $800 if ya choose my path. I do this on domains that I don't really care about to try to get them sold cheap over dropping them as it's very rare I drop much of anything. Good Luck 🍀

They forgot to renew since 2017?

Thank you!

I had tried reaching out to them but never received a response.

Is anyone here from that part of the world who might be able to help get the domain in front of the right person?

I also reached out to these guys a few times. Originally I offered it to them for free on the off chance they had previously owned it and accidentally let it expire!

The employees I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about, and I was never able to get connected with the owner.

At one point, I even linked my custom NamePros lander to the website field on their Google listing. 🤫

Yes. "Tu" has meaning in several languages, which is one reason SushiTU works as a brand.
  • Polish: "tu" = "here." This is likely the intended meaning for SushiTU in Poland, where the restaurant you found is located. It reads naturally as "Sushi Here."
  • Czech/Slovak: Also means "here."
  • Spanish: "tú" (with an accent) means "you." Without the accent ("tu"), it means "your." Domain names don't use accents, so Spanish speakers may read it as "your."
  • French: "tu" means "you" (informal).

So depending on the audience:
  • 🇵🇱 Poland: Sushi Here
  • 🇪🇸 Spanish: Your Sushi
  • 🇫🇷 French: You, Sushi

@Acroplex is in Florida.
Ask him to go to the restaurant, order sushi and sell the name for you.
If the name is sold you pay him the meal and tips.

On the record: 25% commission + a meal and tip for a successful sale.*

*Commission must exceed the cost of the meal and tip ;)

Anyone in Poland also looking for a good meal? https://www.sushitu.pl/

It's hard to answer these types of questions because, personally, when I think whether to renew or not, I look at my entire portfolio - how good or bad this name is compared to my other names, and whether the whole portfolio is better or worse after the decision is made.

But looking at this name only (info we're given), I would definitely ditch it. Food (general terms) is hard to sell; specific food (sushi) is even harder. Name is taken in 5 TLDs, developed in only one. And Polish site won't buy anything, no way.

It all just doesn't look convincing to me.

Well said.

There are definitely better ways to spend the reg fee, and I wouldn't buy it today based on where my portfolio is now.

My doubts only started creeping in because of the recent views, it made me wonder if someone is quietly watching the name.

Yeah, there will always be views, but I wouldn't treat that as an important factor.

I've dropped plenty of similar domains over the years that were registered in 5-8 TLDs, with 2-4 active websites. And I was contacting all of them before dropping the names, asking only a mid-XXX price, and normally you get zero interest. One of the latest was is FoodFormat.com, for example. It was registered in 4 TLDs, with one active site (also Polish), and I let it go.

Another good rule is to check the alternatives. If you can hand-reg an equally good or even better name, it's usually a sign that you should let the domain go.

Again, this is not to say that this name can't be sold. That's why I mentioned it's important to look at the portfolio as a whole, because every name should maximize your chances of making a sale. If one name has a strong chance of selling while another would only sell through a lucky strike, the portfolio is unbalanced. In the long run, that makes it much harder to succeed, imo...

They may not see the domain as part of their brand or official website. Google Maps, phone calls and menu links feel enough...

They've shifted entirely to the .pl ccTLD for their website, and most likely decided that keeping the .com no longer delivered any meaningful benefit.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know that before. That makes sense if they moved fully to the .pl site...
