I need your advice.

A friend reached out and said something that really made me think:

Should I move my domains to somewhere else… or just get rid of them? They don’t actually sell.

And honestly, that question hit me harder than I expected.

Because I think every domainer - beginner or veteran - has faced this moment.

You buy domains. You believe in them. You refresh marketplaces hoping for offers. You tell yourself, “one of them will sell soon.”

But days turn into months. Renewals keep coming. And your passion slowly turns into frustration.

You start thinking...
Maybe I should’ve never gotten into domaining in the first place.

And that’s when I remembered my own story.

In 2021, I got into daily stock trading.
At first, I made money. Everyone wasm, remember the 2021 GME madness?

But when the wave broke, I started losing. Still, I kept going. Because I didn’t want to quit.

Until one day, I saw my wife’s face - tired, frustrated - watching me lose money every day while calling it a business.

That’s when I learned something most people avoid talking about.
And that brings me back to my friend’s question:

When’s the right moment to quit domaining?
Or should you keep going… hoping for that one domain that changes everything?

Scalping - you mean at trading? I found it interesting, but it’s not for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Trading is fancy name of gambling ( imo ) With scalping i mean acquiring things you don't need for yourself such as domaining.

You get rich by working hard and not finding shortcuts in life.

At almost 38 years old, I’ve learned that you get rich by helping people. I might be wrong.
Funny enough, half of this advice came from Andy Booth, on LinkedIn.

Fades37 - Actually, after three years of daily analysis / stock trading / penny stock trading, I learned that trading isn’t gambling, it’s almost 90% statistics. But again, if you lack patience (like I did), even if you know the stock will grow, you’ll still panic.

Alcy - actually, I told my friend that I’m thinking of creating a post about his situation because I believe it could help others. Does that make me look guilty?

With trading I mean crypto trading. That's my personnel opinion might be different when it comes to stocks where things are more calculated.

Serious domainers work harder than the average person with a 9-5 and most people with a 9-5 are gambling too. We all gamble, every time we eat, walk, talk, post and breath.

@katerleonid

To tag a username as a live link, add @ before the name.

NP also has a nifty feature where it will autofill the name options as you start typing.

You'll also see a 'reply' button in the bottem right corner of every post which will automatically quote the post in your response.

I was going to add a welcome to NP message, but as it stands now it seems like a goodbye would be more appropriate ;)

Either way, good luck!

Thanks for sharing. It’s not me who wants to quit domaining, it’s a friend.

Well some people consider eating, walking, talking and breathing as work.

You haven't given us much information for a valid suggestion.
How many domains are there, how long have they been for sale, are they reg fee?

I generally like to go against the mainstream, and I also rely on various tools such as Estibot.
So I suggest a test to your friend:
Analyse the portfolio (let's say it's composed of 100 domains) and choose the top 10 according to his judgement.
Then analyse the entire portfolio through:
- evaluation tools such as Estibot, Atom, GoDaddy, Dynadot
- Check how many extensions are registered
- Ask AI for a ranking

Assign scores to the 100 domains and check how many domains with the listed criteria fall within the selected 10%.
If there are any, it might be worth insisting because your friend has a certain instinct.
If no one, well then...

@ontiscal - thanks for sharing.

I agree the information is incomplete, but I actually asked him how many domains he owns and if he could share some examples or more info. I haven’t received a response yet. He seemed more depressed and ready to quit than willing to provide more details, or maybe he just wanted someone to talk to.

Maybe invite him to join the convo here?

no, you should lighten up! Those two things, domains and stocks are always there. Just do something else, dabble with stocks and domains, and take something for your OCD (pills). ty.

My friend is into domaining (and wants to quit), and I used to trade stocks (but I quit).
