Dear NamePros community,

I have a question regarding a domain I hand registered, which I am worried about.

A little background:

I started acquiring domains this year and my first purchase included ~50 domains, all hand-reg. Despite a few domains which I do realize now their potential may not be as good as I thought, specially from a company perspective, overall I'm still quite satisfied given it was just my first purchase and it could have gone much worse, given it was such a high number of domains to get started with.

However, there is one domain that has given me nightmares, so to speak. Why? Because it includes the word "Youtubers". Yeah. I thought at the time that "Youtubers" would not be an issue, there's even a game right now on steam called "Youtubers Life" that is not, as far as I know, endorsed by Google. And they are making money off of it, it's not even a free game. So I assumed it would be ok to include "youtubers" in a domain name. However, I'm no so sure or comfortable about keeping this domain any longer.

NOTE: I have not profited a single dollar with the domain. It's not parked or anything like that, I just have the domain.

So my questions are the following:
  • What would you do in my situation? Drop the domain as soon as possible? Keep it?
  • Can the company come after me for having such a domain? What would be the worst case scenarium, given that I did not profit a single dollar from it?
  • Even if I drop the domain, can they still come after me? Like if I drop the domain today, i cannot hide the fact that at one point in time, I owned this domain. Can they still sue me in 2020 for owning this domain for sometime in 2016? Has something similiar ever happened in the domain industry?
Sorry if it's a lot of questions for just one topic.

Thoughts?

Just drop it and move on. Not worth having nightmares over it.

Thanks for your input. That's probably what I'm gonna do.

Anymore thoughts on this? Would you keep such domain? Would you sell, park, etc?

I would not keep it, it's unlikely you will have any worthwhile success with it, it may even become risky.

Drop the domain.

It is highly unlikely the company will sue you after you have dropped the domain.

Try to flip it first quickly then drop it if it takes you much time to do.
