Should I do this?

I have a .com domain, and a competitior has the .net version of it. His .net site ranks as one of the 1st Google results, and mine does not. Mine isn't even indexed.

He's offering to trade his .net domain + cash for my .com domain, because he obviously knows that .com is better. Should I go for it? When I look at the pros, I'm getting cash and a .net domain that ranks 1st on Google for the keyword I want. When I look at the cons, he's getting the .com version of the name.

Would it be a smart move to accept his offer? Or a dumb move?

is this a name you have developed or have plans for?
if not then tell him you don't even want the .net just more $$$...

The keyword that I'm aiming for is currently an unpopular keyword, but I'm anticipating, and positively sure that it will be tremendously searched within the next few weeks. Don't ask, lol.

The .com that he wants from me is a completely undeveloped domain name. There's nothing on it and it's not indexed by Google.

Thing is, I have another .com site targeting that same keyword that both he and I want, and I wouldn't mind having the .net site redirecting to it.

I'm just worried that it'd be a stupid move to trade this .com for his .net + cash and seeing him bring the .com to success beyond me.

For what's its worth, (not fear that he will bring it to more success than you are). The question is, what is the dot com worth, what can you do with it? develop it or sell it?

If not develop sell. IF sell when, how much is it worth?

I can't tell you what to do without seeing the domain, etc depends what the domain is.

hard to guess without knowing the exact domain, assume he will bring the .com to success above you and price accordingly so there is no regret when this happens.

There is no guarantee that the .net will rank 1st forever. If he can make the .net rank, then he can make the .com rank as well. In the long run, if you accept his offer and do nothing about the .net, you will still lose to his .com.

Thing is, I have another .com site targeting that same keyword that both he and I want, and I wouldn't mind having the .net site redirecting to it.

In order to rank, websites need to have real content. If you redirect the .net site to your another site (in other words, you remove its content), it will lose its ranking in search engines.

I'm just worried that it'd be a stupid move to trade this .com for his .net + cash and seeing him bring the .com to success beyond me.

Eventually, he will. But if he's offering an insanely large amount of money, you can use the cash to advance your business or buy another/better domain. Just keep in mind that the .net ranking is not guaranteed to last forever.

Depends. How much cash is being offered?

If its a decent amount of cash I would. With seo and good content you can make that .net rank right beside the .com or maybe even first.

keep the .com and have a look at the source code to see what keywords he is using, you might get a hint of what's making it work for him ? .....he wants your .com for a reason ??

Sell the com. Keep the net. Get a website up on it and continue to build links and content. Use the money from the sale to develop your other similar dot com.
Enjoy the traffic and income from the net while he plays catch up with the dot com.
Link your new dot com from the net.

The worst case scenario (if you keep the net developed) is that you have a domain ranked #2 in Google that is making $$$ and directs trafffic to your similar dot com.
