Personally I thought affiliate links are not allowed but management recently changed its policy it seems due to shortage of godaddy coupons.

The shortage of GoDaddy coupon codes is the reason we now allow affiliate codes.

What does everyone think about allowing affiliate links in the thread?
Do you want us to allow them in GoDaddy Discount Codes?

It's up to members whether they feel these provide value.

I think there needs to be an express disclaimer on each of them stating they are affiliate links.

Also, what is there to stop someone from making malicious masked links that redirect you to say a fake godaddy site where it steals your password? That will probably be discovered quickly, but is it worth having 1 or 2 people having their businesses disrupted over this?

I haven't found any affiliate links that work, for me. So, for me, there's no benefit- only downfall. (As Beezy said, possible masked links or wasted time)

No, they still have codes attached to them, just post them or find a coupon site that does. You're just opening it up to spam and usually codes that don't even work. DP. You should never have affiliate links in the content of a post on a forum, unless you want to junk it up. At the very most, in the sig.

Drop affiliate links.
I like and agree with Beezy.
Why also the short urls should never be allowed in threads and posts.

I vote no. You can see how the thread is developing. It's going to crap.

I suspect they work just fine. their purpose is to make money for the link poster.
if it dropped an affiliate cookie on your machine, it worked properly.

you didn't get a working code? that wasn't the point. affiliate cookie on your machine....... that was the point.

I see no issues. The codes work and discounts are hard to come by. Both sides benefit.

sadly, less and less people pay attention to both sides of the trade anymore. JB Lions has the sensibility though.

Sorry to say but this thread may be past its prime, maybe way past its prime. Domain names are not "new" anymore.

Why not do the work and create a new, useful coupon thread instead of milking this old one? Why not?

Don't allow affiliate links.

If an affiliate code is the best available I'd like to see it. If somebody finds an affiliate code posted somewhere else and it works then posting it here can be beneficial. It never made sense to me when somebody would post a 'WOW' code (probably innocently) that gave the best discount for a product only to have a bunch of people lecture them on "WOW codes are affiliate codes, affiliate codes are not allowed". I was always happy to use the code and get the discount.

Then again, I can see how it could become a nightmare to moderate all the spam and read through variations of the same discount from different affiliates.

Maybe a separate thread under the 'advertising' forum with a link to in on the first post of the main thread. That way it would keep clutter out of the main thread, but if people want to search out those codes they have a way within Namepros.

I actually posted links that worked the other day. One link was going to the site then going to godaddy. This post was removed because I was told it is not removed and that only direct links are accepted.

No need to panic with the masking thing because I think with the tow step auth , it is very hard to lose access to your account even if you give away your password.

So since the links I posted benefited many, though not anyone said it worked or not , I am in favor of that. At first I was not aware of affiliate links then I learnt more lol.

I shared the same links on facebook and it worked for many people. So I am with JudgeMind and see no issues.

And according to the guy who gave me those links it seems godaddy give pro.otions and codes to its affliates that are not normally and easilly available.

@cdboard, we all hate cookies but arent you selling something and wanting people to buy from you? Why will you be against someone getting a share of a sale that ia $0.99...hell god only knows what an affliate makes from godaddy salea lol. If I am given a deal thay saves me money then I dont care who else is making money from what I am spending... For am already happy because I saved money... So dont be againist it for they are just tryng to get extra cents or bucks just like you are doing with your domain business :)

Great idea. And one way to verify will be to actually visit the link and see that it redirects to gd website. I dont think people will be posting links that have nothing to do with gd and domains.

Links do work for some people and not for some. Sometimes. I get a code that says it is $0.99 but it gives me like $4. , $2 $6 etc... Do I feel it did not work?/No.. Cause I still save money at GD compared to their normal prices.

So it is never a waste. I have been using them for three months now and even got discount on renewals for $11 instead of $15.

Ok :) I think it is widely accepted that godaddy codes are of a benefit to all those shopping and renewing at godaddy. I for one would not have a problem giving something back to someone willing to share limited codes if I had used the information a member had un-selfishly shared. I agree there needs to be a spam control :D

Why will you be against someone getting a share of a sale.....

my concern is this forum.

unlimited affiliate linking turns forums into wastelands.

if they are allowed in that one thread, then why not everywhere on NP. that would be fun to watch.

@Michelle that is the spirit. @cdboard , it is better to only allow them on that thread because most people are looking for domains coupons even though people sometimes ask for hosting discounts at Godaddy.

If it is allowed for all the forums, then you will see people poat li ks for anything and we will go off topic.

In my opinion, people should post in that thread links that are related to godaddy products and that will benefit in a way or another a user or a visitor of this forum.

I think it is better for the forum if they are not allowed.

I would limit the type of links one can list. All links from cj.com and shareasale.com look the same.

So you mean allowing to post CJ or ShareaSale link but not both?

Sorry I did not get it.
