This is coming close on the heels of several LLLL.com threads I've seen here.

If you look at the current internet stats, you'll recognize that the internet has grown at an average rate of 500%+ in the past 7 years, not accounting the very small countries which bring the overall rate down.

For Africa, this rate has been around 650%.

For Europe and the two Americas, around 200%

Now think of the number of businesses in America alone that don't have any online presence. I'm talking about small restaurants to mom and pop stores.
This number is huge. And I guess you know it.

Currently, these businesses advertise in Yellow Pages etc.
But even Bill Gates agrees that once the baby boomer generation dies, the Yellow Pages will be absolutely obsolete. Why?
Because people will look up EVERYTHING on the internet. They'll look up restaurant menus to maps to housing rates online.

And guess what will happen then?

A huge demand for websites. From businesses in Asia to America, every small scale industry to large corporate houses...every one of them will require an online presence if they want to stay competitive.

And if I want to have an online presence as a business, I would rather choose something like MFLDP.com than MyFavoriteLocalDiningPlace.com. Simple because a shorter name will help me be competitive.

Look at IMDB.com

What would the members here appraise this name as? Low xx, I reckon?

But IMDB.com is one of the top 10 websites on the internet with more than 50 million visitors a month.

So whats stopping a restaurant from calling its web addresss as MFLDP.com rather than MyFavoriteLocalDiningPlace.com?

So finally, what I'm coming to is this: In 10 years, every short name will be very valuable. As many investors say, the Domain market is very undervalued. In 10 years, the internet is going to be as common as television, or perhaps even more.
In that scenario, withing 10 years, EVERY short name will have a huge value, right from the LLL.coms to even the LLLLL.coms. Simple because of the number of businesses that will go online during this period (and realize that a successful online presence requires a short name).

Think about it. iPod, Google, YouTube are the cultural icons of this generation.

And as I said, the internet will be as common as television.
Heck, didnt Graham Bell said of the telephone, that he didn't see the point of two people communicating without seeing each other and that the telephone would be a failure?
And look at where the telephone is now...

The same goes for the internet.
