The future of domaining and the internet!

I have been thinking for a while previous to the .mobi launch about the future of the internet, and where it is headed.

There is no doubt in my mind that we are headed into an age of far more mobile computing on smaller devices.

Already 90% of England is covered in 3G technology allowing speeds of almost 400Kbps for internet access totally wirelessly via your mobile (either on your mobile, or mobile connected to your laptop). 4G technology will be auction off soon. This is what Wiki says about 4G:

4G technology stands to be the future standard of wireless devices. The Japanese company NTT DoCoMo and Samsung are testing 4G communication at 100 Mbit/s while moving, and 1 Gbit/s while stationary [citation needed]. NTT DoCoMo plans on releasing the first commercial network in 2010 and Samsung plans on commercialising this service by 2010 at Jeju Island, South Korea. Despite the fact that current wireless devices seldom utilize full 3G capabilities, there is a basic attitude that if you provide the pipeline then services for it will follow.

That's 100Mbps on a mobile device easily within the next 5-10 years. Not long considering thats the same age as our current internet. The internet is therefore moving into a new era.

There is however, one major flaw with mobile devices - they are not exactly ideal for browsing becase a) the screens are too small and b) they are very limited typing capabilities.

The solution to a) is what Google and many other large companies have already done: they have mobile versions of their websites which are automatically shown to a mobile device.

I have found the solution to the limited keyboard. The virtual keyboard.

This virtual keyboard is still in it's infantile stages, where a seperate device (which connects wirelessly to your mobile via bluetooth) is needed. However, I can easily imagine a phone in the next 5-10 years which has one of these built in.

The point is, start thinking about the mobile market now, rather than in 5 years when it just starts to kick off.

Hardly anyone uses mobile internet because its far too expensive.

Those laser keyboards have been out for an age they're cool but im not sure if they will bring them out on phones... it woulnt work without the phone tilted.
