If you are aiming for the american market - store

for uk/europe shop would be better IMO

Lets wait and see if other NP's from around the world have different opinions :)

Well, that is definately a demographic name. In some parts of the us, we still use the word shop. In West Texas we go shopping at the "grocery" and we get our bikes repaired at the bike "shop". We got to the lumber "yard" to get our home improvement items...Up north, west and east, they do use different terms. Some parts of the country use store, some use shop.

On a related note, in West Texas we use the word term "Ice Chest", in other parts of the US they use "Cooler"...here, we call a carbonated beverage in a can a "Coke", despite the fact that it may be a pepsi, dr. pepper or fanta. Other places, they use the actual names of the beverage. Refrigerator is fridge, vacuum is sweeper, den is living room, etc...most all depends on where you live.

texasgamer has the right idea mate.

Register both and promote both but point one domain to the one you choooose, store in the USA/Canada and shop in Europe.

I prefer shop but I'm English so that's what I am used to.

We never say "Just popping down to the store" lol.

As mentioned above, register both names, if you have to choose one off the two then i would say 'store'.

I think I prefer the word " shop " it just sounds more friendly/personalized to me, it also makes me think small where as the word " store " sounds big, more commercial.

I think it also depends on the product...

GiftShop sounds better then GiftStore
BookStore sounds better then BookShop

Obviously I'd reg both versions if they were available just to cover my butt.

shop has the additional "advantage" that it is also a verb. Granted it uses it verb power by being behind in word flow. Now that you know that each would be fine then you can chose which just sound better together --and after all this --still reg both :)
