There is no lack of understanding with regards to domaining,I think not everyone is a domainer, Domainers make money from traffic domains, Frank Schilling once said to me he never understood how people with domains that do not get traffic are domainers. They are investors in a niche they hope takes off or they are developers but not domainers.
Bottom line is with money you can brand anything, I always laugh when people say something is brandable when anything is brandable. People told the guy at 1800 Flowers he was crazy.
But with money and content anything can and will be branded. IMO it is easier to brand something with a number, because if someone says tome my domain is SEX360.tv
I certainly am not going to be confused I heard him say 360, where you could have some put SEXtv.tv and others mis hear and go to SEX.tv. Again if someone keeps shouting SEX360 you are not forgetting the 360 unless you are stupid or have problems hearing. If its in writing you are certainly not over looking the 360 unless you are illiterate.
So the whole this is brandable and that's not I just disagree with 100 %. Anything is brandable.
ESPN was told you cannot call your sports station ESPN its not brandable, with enough content and exposure it is SPORTS.
GOL tv certainly has the cash to pay the premium yet GOLtv.tv was fine for them and their brand.
I guess I never got the whole misunderstanding I thought reading and hearing were basic, if someone says to me my address is SEXTV.tv I am not going to Sex.tv.
And for .tv Investors tv.tv provides the chance to take a $25 reg and resell for 10 to 100 times Again IMO
Let me correct this statement:
"I still think there is a fundamental lack of understanding related to domaining"
I still think there is a fundamental misunderstanding (among some people here) related to how a search engine sees XXXXtv.tv and XXXX.tv. That, in my opinion, can explain why some are giving an especially low valuation to a keywordtv.tv domain name(s) while giving substantially high valuations for the counterpart, keyword.tv domain name(s).
Search engine traffic to the tv.tv will likely be greater to the tv.tv than the .tv for "XXXX tv" searches.
I think that branding a tv.tv is somewhat counter productive because the opportunity for confusion among potential customer is great, but that is just my opinion.
You (EQ) and others here might not be confused, but you (we) are educated and in the top percentages of the world population. The average consumer that most of these sites cater to are less intelligent and there level of attention to detail is also much lower.
Yes, anything is brandable. Anything you put a substantial money behind has a chance, but the point is to lower the hurdle to success as low as possible so you can step right over the bar.
I do not want anyone to misunderstand what I am saying. Yes, keywordtv.tv domains can be good investments for $25 a year, but my feeling is that I wouldn't bet on my brand on using a tv.tv.
