Considering all the discussion about Sex.TV, the research EQ did, and the debate on TV.TV I've been thinking a-lot about SexTV.TV and if the asking price makes sense or not.

The person who owns SexTV.TV has a price tag of $150,000 for it.
I have emailed this person and confirmed that they are only accepting offers over $100,000

Who here thinks this price for SexTV.TV is valid, over priced, or under priced?

Obviously the word "Sex" is one of the top keywords in domaining, so in a sense this could be the holy grail of TV.TV and all other keywords fall in place below it.

What would you value SexTV.TV at?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I would value it at somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 In a great market, right now $20,000 to $36,000. I agree it is one of the better if not top tv.tv

I own Girlstv.tv which I think is up there, and I own USATV.tv which I think is a good alternative to USA.tv at $100,000 upfront and premium renewal.

I would have to agree with Ray on this one.. sextv.tv is definatly a great keyword _tv.tv, if not the best one, but there is still not much awareness of .TV let alone _tv.tv to justify a high price tag. I would say it would be worth 25,000-30,000 in today's market, but definatly worth alot more as public awarness comes to fruition.

BTW-Ray.. usatv.tv will garner some great ROI at some point forsure.

Cheers.

Jeff

disagree completely......this name is worth no more than 1 k at very best....any tv.tv is worth something only if developed, such as exercisetv.tv.....undeveloped, the name will have close to reg fee value

I will have to tell the people that offered $2000 for Girlstv.tv they are insane James.

Thanks for the kind words JEFF on USAtv.tv

Jack I posted this thread and gave a plug to portlandmaine.tv on Dottvnation.tv

Perhaps James may not be as familiar with how search traffic can work for someone searching for XXXX TV.

If you develop the same website at news.tv and newstv.tv, sextv.tv and sex.tv, or whateverTV.tv and whatever.tv, the tv.tv site has an equal if not greater chance of receiving traffic (all other things being equal) than the .tv site (please correct me if am wrong).

TV.TV may not look great from a branding perspective, but its power should not be underestimated.

Thankyou very much for the plug EQ, and yes I agree I think this thread needs to be discussed.

USATV.TV is great, especially where USA.TV is $100,000 per year.
I think LLLTV.TV is a great play in general.

James $1000 for SexTV.TV?
I wish it was for sale for $1000 LOL

Kevin has brought up a huge point as well, these key words have great value, not just in branding but in search.

interesting discussion...how much i love sextv.tv and if i was a hitter i would rather own porn.tv for 225k or porno.tv.

right now I put a value on 30k on sextv.tv due to the nature of the area-how porn continues to do well on the interenet...i am very bullish on the .tv extension and this area and mobi...

now the concept of keyword tv.tv.....interesting point and there were some sales in this year....i thought businesstv.tv sold VERY cheaply...

when I look at some of my words in this area-i own

stockstv.tv
bjtv.tv
lesbianstv.tv

the stockstv.tv i love and bjtv.tv..avoid the yearly fee of 50k on stocks.tv and these names are beginning generate some traffic.

ray-your sitting on some value.....good discussion on this thread....

cheers,

j

I think you would find it selling much closer to 1k than the $25/35k prices thrown out there at TODAYS market by Eq and Virtruali - no offense guys.....but I think you are way way off......how many top class .tv's have sold for anything close to these figures?????

HOT.TV, and a few others - thats it.....and these were (with the exception of SURFACE and a couple of others) strong generics......

To say that any TV.TV is now worth anything close to that price range is way way too optimistic....someone taking a TV.TV is sacrificing a huge amount in terms of brandability - in return that person will expect a huge discount on the price of the name otherwise they would go for the generic itself.......

I bought COFFEETV.TV because I intend to develop it - there are hundreds of availalabe TV.Tvs left still out there....I for one am taking a deep enough risk on the .tv extension itself, to start buying up TV.TVs takes the risk another step further........no way do I see myself with such a portfolio.......if i thought tv.tv was worth that much i would have alot more names with key generic tv.tvs

Of course all of this is one opinion...... :)

The only thing I would add is that I would buy the TV.TV of any .TV name I intended to develop as a defensive reg, just like I would try and buy the TV.com

And since we are putting valuations out there - how much would you reckon COFFEETV.TV is worth at todays prices........bigger industry than TEA, global industry etc etc - 10k yearly premium......as a .tv.......

James, SexTV.TV for 1k???

If SexTV.TV was listed for sale at 1k it would sell in under 1 minute.

I am seeing more and more websites on tv with the name and tv at the end.
Obviously this is tv.com, but the fact is it is all good for .tv awareness.

We also still have yet to see what is going to happen with Oprah and OwnTV.TV

Well to throw a little oil on the fire, businesstv.tv sold for $900. How much was the regular renewal for business.tv? IMO SexTV.TV is better than businesstv.tv but how much better? I mean if business.com is worth $350 million, Sex.com has to be worth twice that, not that this is a proper equation or anything but you could make a case for Sextv.tv in the low to mid $X,XXX range if it is worth a few more times than Business.

Was businesstv.tv the highest tv.tv sale on record?

I have that it went for $805 on TDNAM in Jan 08

$805+$39.99 not quite $900 but you get my point.

Oh I see they get you with the renewal at godaddy.
Thanx!

surely then if businesstv.tv went for less than $900 that ends all discussions of any keywordtv.tv being worth in the 20k region or anywhere close.....

How does that end the discussion?

business is the top keyword afdter sex and news and it went for less than $1000 - explain to me -( i would have thought it would have made perfect sense the first time i said it) how any lesser key words are worth 20- 35 x that amount..............as for SEXTV.TV itself - its more or less on par with businesstv.tv, ok, maybe 2 times better, 3 times better even, still - I would not value it at more than 3k tops..........

So you would not value SexTV.TV at more than $3000?

You are serious?

Thank you for your opinion.

my point on businesstv.tv is the name got a huge steal imo....

when your comparing apples to apples there both solid names.....now which is better? if you ask me there the same...huge potential on both.

but that comes to other point....if i had 150k i surly would not buy sextv.tv for that much. people that have that type of cash probably can find another 75k and i would suggest in buying porn.tv for 225k.

keyword tv.tv is a nice way to grab a keyword... obviously your not buying the best but your not also paying those big hefty yearly fees...my other point is that by doing this-and if the keyword.tv is developed the odds are that your name will have traffic.

businesstv.tv is one of the top notch names out there....same as sextv.tv.....

the future holds well on this concept I believe....give it time with .tv and keywordtv.tv

James you make a lot of good points and I and I think Virtuali are talking about and end user sale. Nowhere close to $20,000 here or any other reseller option.

But I agree with MW at $1000 it would go in 1 min, I think it would easily get bid up to $2000 or $3000. I turned down $2000 for Girlstv.tv.

The thing about tv.tv is you have to weigh all the variables.

What is the pure.tv premium ?
Is it regged ?
Who regged it ? so it may not be available for purchase for any amount.

So Sextv.tv 1 out of every 4 searches worldwide is for SEX/porn.
SEX.tv is not for sale and will not be, if it came on market they would be looking for an unrealistic number of mid x,xxx, xxx.
Names like SEXtv1.tv are developed, DO NOT LOOK AT WORK or AROUND SPOUSE.

Now you mentioned only for development and I agree but it still cost something to get a great name for development.

I think the tv.tv trend will continue, as far is investment it started in this forum before the first time I wrote about tv.tv there was never any mention of tv.tv in the reseller community and I believe a lot of good names were regged and have received offers on the domain.

I think if you use all the variables then you can see if a domain has at least potential value. Another thing these are all reg fee domains, at least til Demand Media started coming here and reading our info and marked up NEWStv.tv to $1000,Golftv.tv to $1000 and a few other tv.tv for $100.

Another thing about Businesstv.tv that auction ended like on a Saturday morning, Secondly it was not purchased by an end user. So visibility not too great.

I think we are talking on an end user basis, yes I can see an adult entertainment company going to $20,000 - $30,000 I would never include domainers in that.

And MW Girlstv.tv I turned down $2000 and SEXTV.tv is probably better by most peoples opinion.

Wow. Thanks ray in taking the time and research into your recent post. My thumbs are tired scrolling down from my blackberry lol.

Very well done ray. I would give you np dollar but I gave them all away during Christmas lol.

Adult area is a booming business and a couple months back I sold some names cheaply which I regret. .tv and this area goes well.

Sextv.tv I am not sure on traffic but I assume its doing 1500 uniques a month. Based on sellers expectations of 150,000 it surly is a bit much but I am sure the traffic is picking up month by month.

Good luck everyone.

I still think there is a fundamental lack of understanding related to domaining and that is the reason for the large variance in different valuations of these names. Until that gap is closed, you guys will continue to discuss this in circles.

From a brandability point of view, it would be a costly mistake to use a tv.tv for a website in my opinion because of the confusion involved. Once you get over the .com hurdle, now you just put another hurdle up with the extra tv...chances are you will lose traffic to the .tv site. For that reason, tv.tv has little value FROM a brandability perspective.

The value in tv.tv domain stems from the way a search engine sees a tv.tv site. I believe newstv.tv has a higher profile than news.tv from a search engine perspective for the search term "news tv" ASSUMING these sites had exactly the same content, number of pages, number of incoming/outgoing links, etc...in other words, all things being equal.

There is no lack of understanding with regards to domaining,I think not everyone is a domainer, Domainers make money from traffic domains, Frank Schilling once said to me he never understood how people with domains that do not get traffic are domainers. They are investors in a niche they hope takes off or they are developers but not domainers.

Bottom line is with money you can brand anything, I always laugh when people say something is brandable when anything is brandable. People told the guy at 1800 Flowers he was crazy.

But with money and content anything can and will be branded. IMO it is easier to brand something with a number, because if someone says tome my domain is SEX360.tv
I certainly am not going to be confused I heard him say 360, where you could have some put SEXtv.tv and others mis hear and go to SEX.tv. Again if someone keeps shouting SEX360 you are not forgetting the 360 unless you are stupid or have problems hearing. If its in writing you are certainly not over looking the 360 unless you are illiterate.

So the whole this is brandable and that's not I just disagree with 100 %. Anything is brandable.

ESPN was told you cannot call your sports station ESPN its not brandable, with enough content and exposure it is SPORTS.

GOL tv certainly has the cash to pay the premium yet GOLtv.tv was fine for them and their brand.

I guess I never got the whole misunderstanding I thought reading and hearing were basic, if someone says to me my address is SEXTV.tv I am not going to Sex.tv.

And for .tv Investors tv.tv provides the chance to take a $25 reg and resell for 10 to 100 times Again IMO

Ray, what is your view on the quote you attribute to Frank Schilling? What defines a "domainer" to you? Would you say that if you buy domains that do not have traffic and sell them for a profit then you are considered a domainer? is there some threshold you have to meet in any way. If so, what is it?

Let me correct this statement:

"I still think there is a fundamental lack of understanding related to domaining"

I still think there is a fundamental misunderstanding (among some people here) related to how a search engine sees XXXXtv.tv and XXXX.tv. That, in my opinion, can explain why some are giving an especially low valuation to a keywordtv.tv domain name(s) while giving substantially high valuations for the counterpart, keyword.tv domain name(s).

Search engine traffic to the tv.tv will likely be greater to the tv.tv than the .tv for "XXXX tv" searches.

I think that branding a tv.tv is somewhat counter productive because the opportunity for confusion among potential customer is great, but that is just my opinion.

You (EQ) and others here might not be confused, but you (we) are educated and in the top percentages of the world population. The average consumer that most of these sites cater to are less intelligent and there level of attention to detail is also much lower.

Yes, anything is brandable. Anything you put a substantial money behind has a chance, but the point is to lower the hurdle to success as low as possible so you can step right over the bar.

I do not want anyone to misunderstand what I am saying. Yes, keywordtv.tv domains can be good investments for $25 a year, but my feeling is that I wouldn't bet on my brand on using a tv.tv.
