SERP question...

There is probably an obvious answer to this question but I've either forgotten it or just never figured it out: How do you determine where your domain is in SE results? For example, I recently put corrugated-box.com up on WhyPark. It is not in the first few pages of SE results but I'd like to know where it is and also monitor it as I optimize the site. Anybody care to share how to do this?

Thanks!

The first thing to do is to check the site with this operator

site:www.yoursite.com

This will show you the pages that are indexed. Then you can search for your site title or site name to see if it appears in search results or not. If it does not, then you will have to wait for some time. New sites may take some time before they show up high in SERPs.

Thanks for the help. I installed the firefox rank checker but unfortunately the domain does not show up. So I checked the site:www.corrugated-box.com and sure enough it is not yet indexed. However when I checked site:corrugated-box.com I saw that three pages are indexed.

Why the difference?

They both point to the same place so you only WANT one or the other to be indexed.

Ideally, you would redirect one to the other to prevent any confusion. However, that's not an option at WhyPark (that I know of).

it takes time to get your site rankings in search engines. Keywords should be properly targeted or else no serp's.

prepare your site with proper On-page and work out on your Off-page for few time and surely u can see some rankings of ur site for the targeted keywords in search engines.

It's parked at Godaddy right now. I have to move it to my hosting service to do this, no?

How is it determined, which one gets indexed?

Can you explain what this means - "on-page" and "off-page"? Afraid I have no idea.

You can redirect one to the other (use a permanent "301" redirect) or state a preference in Webmaster Tools. Otherwise, the search engines will make an arbitrary choice.

That's not too many keywords to target for an entire site, sites can rank for hundreds or thousands of different keywords. It IS too many and too broad a grouping to target on one page.

On page SEO - using content, markup, site navigation and other on-site elements to help pages be seen as highly relevant and rank well for certain terms.

Off page SEO - Inbound links. (And outbound links, though that could also fall under on-page SEO)
