I run an automotive blog: www.globalmotors.net

most of my traffic comes from forums and other sites.

What bugs me on search results is that my original content is after those who have used my content(thankfully most of them link back to me as I am the original source).

I use tags, good titles.. etc

Any good advice as I cant see myself going deep into this:( content takes lot of time.

i currently use All in One SEO Pack and sitemap.

thanks

I think that you need to attract quality posters first off all. You need content first of all. Once you have content - start working on the optimization. I think they are first steps you need to start with.

Agree on the content. Look at the site first.
Surely we are working on more content, but right now we are one of the first when it comes to new spy photos.

Lot of sites use our content and link back(most of our traffic comes from there).

But for some reason they rank higher on search results. Using our content and posting later than we do.

We tag posts good.

any other suggestions? tips?

I would hate to use a SEO service. just dont believe in them. Bunch of marketing talk usually.

Then how can you outrank them? If you are not going to use SEO services then you will have to suffer from this scenario forever. [Maybe you can learn the SEO and do it yourself.]

Thanks.

It's all about backlinks apparently - submit your site name to directories, ping your new posts (which I assume you do already), sign up to http://www.socialmarker.com/ , this is an easy way to inform multiple social networking sites each time you make a post, leave comments on blogs and forums with your link in your sig etc... - tedious but apparently it works - also make sure you have internal links within your site, one post linking to another using the keywords you want to be ranked for - also put <h1> tabs around your title and put Global Motors in the title now and then - put <h2> tabs around sub-titles
- also use bold and underline one or two times to highlight keywords

Take a look at my Wordpress SEO Plugins article. That is the best place to start and to convert things like title tags, meta tags, etc. Don't forget, proper permalink structure is also important. The category base killer plugin I mention removes the /category/ section from your URLs. I prefer the following permalink structure...

www.site.com/category/post-name/ = for actual posts... no need for the date.

i would say that to start you need to learn seo - not just install a bunch of plugins. after that you'll understand how to use those tools effectively. as for outranking other people and getting search traffic, you'll also need to either learn seo yourself, or outsource it to someone who knows their stuff. it's great that you have original content, but unfortunately that's not enough.

I suggest you remember two main things, content and backlinks. You need to work on both of these and your ranking in SEs will improve.

I saw your blog its good and content is also nice and its important in this niche to update latest news about automotives so you must carry on with your content and you will get backlinks for sure

You should build backlinks, a good way to do this is by posting on forums with your link in your sig

thanks. thats pretty interesting. I ll continue working on the content and will try to dig into to whole SEO as much as possible.

I know I got more content than lot of other sites, I just dont get the same results from search engines as they do.

you are using two plugins for wordpress which might conflict with each other since they are doing the same thing: Meta tags plugin and all in one seo. Check your site because google might consider it meta spamming.

Problem:
Detected more than one META keyword tag.

Recommendations:
Having more than one tag may seem like spamming to search engines. You should revise or remove this tag altogether.

Problem:
Detected more than one META description tag.

Having more than one tag may seem like spamming to search engines. Consider revising this tag and optimize for your keyword.

I hope it helps :talk:

Ping the big G

I read this earlier online, not sure if its true but it won't hurt.

Make sure you ping the big G with your articles. That way they know its your content that is original (ie someone might grap your content and Google indexes their site before yours).

It won't won't hurt to try.

blogsearch.google.com/ping

Let everyone know if that helps.

on XML Sitemap Generator it sais:

# Your sitemap was last built on September 14, 2008 2:19 pm.
# Your sitemap (zipped) was last built on September 14, 2008 2:19 pm.
# Google was successfully notified about changes.
# YAHOO was successfully notified about changes.
# MSN was successfully notified about changes.
# Ask.com was successfully notified about changes.

so where else should I ping?

So should I ping after every new post? Would not tha tbe spamming?

i think wordpress automatically pings everyone after each new post as it is... i don't think it's spamming as long as you're actually posting something new each time you ping.

you can use ping-o-matic to ping. Its a way to broadcast that you have a new article or content. If you have rss subscribers to your site, ping service will help you reach your targets by informing them that you have a fresh content.

it seems that wordpress does it very fast:

Slow down cowboy!

You're pinging us too fast.

Your last ping was less than a few minutes ago

Please only ping us when you update.
If you don't think you pinged us

Maybe some software automatically did. (Like WordPress.) The good news is we already sent out a ping for you.

I pinged perhaps 3 minutes after last new post.
