I'm contemplating selling a high value domain (six figures) and seek advice on best selling strategies. My question is: what is the best strategy for selling high value domains? How can you best reach potential buyers directly? How can you best publicize/merchandise the domain? Is a domain broker the preferable selling route? Which broker is best for high value domains? I'd be grateful for any information members care to share. I will do a summary of advice as an "educational" post in a few days to benefit all.

Some facts about Meds.com.
1. I have been offered in the mid six figures by domain acquirers who are not strategic buyers. I believe the domain may be worth more to a strategic buyer.
2. The term "meds" is commonly used by healthcare professionals and patients to refer to prescription medications. (See data below on usage in search engines.) The domain is therefore ideally suited for an online pharmacy, pharmaceutical or biotechnology company, healthcare organization or health portal.
3. Meds.com currently averages over 300,000 visits per month (10,000+ per day).
4. Meds.com is listed first in Google organic listings for the search term “meds”.
5. It’s also listed first in Google for the terms “online meds”,“cancer meds”, “breast cancer meds”, “prostate cancer meds” and multiple variations of “leukemia meds”.
6. It’s listed in the Top 5 Google results for “hiv aids meds”, and “hepatitis meds”.
7. With proper search engine optimization, the site can almost certainly be positioned first in Google with most any disease, followed by the word meds – “diabetes meds”, “erectile dysfunction meds”, “allergy meds”, etc.
8. Such high listings in organic results substantially reduce the need for and cost of pay per click advertising.
9. Meds.com has over 20,000 high-ranked inbound links into the site, according to Yahoo!
10. The terms “meds” and “prescription meds” are searched nearly 400,000 times per month.
11. The term “pet meds” is searched over 900,000 times per month.
Meds.com displays Google ads, which produce a small amount of monthly income.
12. Meds.com currently displays Google ads and generates a relatively small amount of monthly ad revenue.
So...how would you go about selling meds.com domain name???

Welcome to NamePros.

If you want to unload a domain of this caliber quickly for the best possible value - your best bet would be listing it at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. live auction (next show is scheduled in June in NYC).

I think it would be better to flip that name to an end-user rather than a domain owner/developer.
but your question is really hard to answer.
If you got 6 figures offers, that is a good amount of money for this name.
I think you should contact all the industry related companies, and negotiate with them.

Oh... and register it for ten years.. it will expire on May 3 2008. By registering it for a long period of time, you give the potential buyers the feeling that you have serious development plans and you do not intend to sell it for any amount of money. This will cost you only 70 bucks, but can gain you a lot more back.

Good luck with it,
Alex
