Selling at GoDaddy Marketplace

Hi,

When you list a domain for sale at Godaddy, does any buyer need to first become a paid member of the marketplace in order to place a bid?

There was a $5 yearly fee for their marketplace if I remember correctly. Do buyers need to subscribe to this first?

Edit:
I just checked and indeed buyers need to buy yearly membership. This is the page I saw when I tried to make an offer:

I think this is very off putting for potential buyers. It is also tricky. Godaddy will recharge unaware buyers $4.99 again after one year, won't they?

I had already listed some domains at Godaddy. Now I'm not sure what to do.

With regard to the $5 fee, i dont think it is much of a problem to most of the serious investors? Just weedles out some of the time wasters imo.

Oh and there was a code not long ago that gave free one year GoDaddy auctions membership. Needless to say i took full advantage of the code ;)

the wait times are to make sure they won't get scammed.
complain all you want but at least i know if i sold on godaddy there won't be any mysterious charge-backs, etc.
as far as the $5 it's a symbolical price, meaning - hey i'm serious about bidding and don't mind being charged.

we are spoiled by the idea of "instant gratification", but you have to remember you are the seller not the buyer.

the only downside is that the buyers also have to wait, which i don't understand why they have to do that, since the domain is locked inside godaddy for at least 60days, they have protection from that end in the event the funds got charged back.

also... I want to add that i had to manually deal with a push once because the buyer paid but never bothered to accept the domain.
so i called them and they had me push it to godaddy's account to make sure that it's not my problem anymore.

well, same happened with me too.

whats if you type in the "comment" field when negotiationg at godaddy, asking the buyer to contact you directly via email and ask him to make the deal outside godaddy?

I have had many auctions at godaddy and most of them didn't sell. I am not going to renew the $5 yearly fee - I dont think its worth it when there are so many other places to sell domains.

The price is not the point. A buyer doesn't want to sign up for yearly membership just to buy one domain.

It is no problem for godaddy to require membership for sellers. I wouldn't mind if they charge 50 USD a year. However for buyers they shouldn't do this.

I didn't know that buyers had to pay too D-:

But, even if only one transaction is completed, wouldn't the
buyer be more secure in the "Godaddy" environment for a buy
rather than through an email or something?
Plus there is "always the chance" that they might buy again.

If you want to go to a night club for one time, and they require you to buy yearly membership that renews automatically every year, would you be happy about this?

LOL funny you mention that - my membership dues for the
Legion are due again, haven't been in 5 years ;)

For a moment let's assume a potential buyer would say, "Oh it's just $5. That's not too much. I'll just pay it."

Even then do you think it is more likely this buyer would want to buy membership that renews automatically every year without being given any option? I'm sure great majority of one time buyers who actually pay the $5 membership fee are not aware they buy a continuous membership.

Most sellers don't have a problem with that. Who cares if Godaddy screws the unaware buyer? My problem is that I feel partly responsible of the problem. Most of the time I find the end users myself. I send them a link. I tell them to go to that page and to click on that link.

Godaddy charging the buyer is a bad thing if they had charged a one time fee. However, they go beyond that. They sell membership that renews automatically without giving any option during checkout.

This is like one of those sms scams that come with hidden membership.

I received a totally useless email from Godaddy. I sold a domain a few weeks ago and they still didn't pay me. Now they send me this email but still no mention from money.

Maybe you should pay their membership fees then :) Joke.

I listed a domain on there in their auction interface. If it's not an expired domain it most likely will never be seen! Just searching for my name without typing in a word took over 20 minutes...

All the public auctions that are not expiring domains they put into one large list, and you have to use the right side panel to even find them. Ridiculous!
