Self-Hosting & Domain Name

If I wanted to host one of my sites directly from my computer and I've set up the hosting part of the procedure, how do I go about setting up the domain name? Or is this possible?

If anyone's got how-to links or tutorials covering this, please share thanks so much!

If you have a static home IP you can host your dns at your domain registrar. After setting your domain to their nameservers, they allow you to set A records. If you add an A record that sends www to your IP. It is not recommend though, but okay if it is just you testing things out.

I don't have an guides, google may help you there.

Nameservers should be installed. + your ISP should allow you that. + web server should be installed etc
As you see that more troubles here then pleasure and I believe that is better to pay few $$ per month and do not worry about that

Do the search. I have seen a lot of blog posts and articles about that and I suppose that you need to understand if you need that for serious things or for fun?

You'll need to make sure you don't get power failures often, networking is not spiky etc.

Majority of ISPs won't allow you to host on their network.

Let me know if your attempt succeeds. I am sure a lot of people including my friends asked me on how to host their own sites are their cpu. Should be interesting.

I suppose that you will be able to find a lot of articles about that. That is interesting to learn but I suppose that there is no need to have that at home
